HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-14-13 Council Meeting MinutesJULY 14TH, 1952 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chamber, Monday, July 14th, 1952, at 8:00 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Hahn. President Erler presided. REPORT OF COTMAITTEE ON MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South. Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend that the same be approved. Meeting of June 9th, 1952. WALTER C. ERLER, SR. i Committee STANLEY C. KORPAL Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted. PE TIT ION We the undersigned petition the South Bend City Council to change the zone from "A" Residential "All Height and Area to "B" Residential "B" Height and Area of lots 1, 21 3, 49 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 of Navarre Place Subdivision., The undersigned dieing the owners of- -the above property. These lots are on the east side of Michigan St. and north of North Shore Drive. 9 Signers Councilman Korpal made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Plan Commission. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION Petition to close alley running north and south between East Monroe Street and East South Street, Sunnymede Addition, South Bend, Indiana. To the City Council City of South Bend South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: The undersigned property owners respectfully submit our petition for the closing of the above described alley as a through alley immediately in order to avoid injury to children. The undersigned are the legal owners of all property bordering on said alley -- Approximately 47 signers 0ouncilman Nieegodski made -a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public ti "forks. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETIT ION TO THE HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. Comes now Andrew Medich who would respectfully show: That he is the owner in fee simple of Lots Numbered Two Hundred sixty six, Two hundred and sixty seven and Lot Numbered Two hundred and sixty eight in Shively's First Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana; that said Lots are now classified as Residential. Petitioner would show that it is his desire to build on said Lots aforesaid and prays the Council to change said classification from "B" Residential and "A" Height and Area to "D" Light Industrial and "E" Height and Area. PETITION We. the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to improve the deplorable condition in LaSalle Park Addition to South Bend by imposing the immediate stoppage of refuse and debris burning in Beck Lake Dump as a smoke, fire, health, and property hazard. (Approximately 36 signers) Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works with the suggestion that some action be taken on the smoke ordinance. Grant for change of zoning of Lots Numbered 1, 2 and 3 in Hartman and Woodworth's Addition from "B" Residential and "A" Height and Area Districts to "D" Light Industrial and "D" Height and Area District has been given public hearing before the City Flan Commission at_ a Special Meeting June 12, 1952. Hoover for change of zoning of Lot No. 1089 in a proposed section of LaSalle Park on the northwest corner of Lake and Washington for change of zoning from "B" Residential District to "C" Commercial District has been given public hearing before the City Plan Commission at a special meting June 12, 1952. Anderson et 'al. for change of zoning of Lots No. 1, 2 and 3 in Whitcomb & Keller's Beverly Heights First Addition on the east side of S. Main St. south of West Donmoyer Ave. which are occupied by single residence houses, from "C" Commercial and "D" Height and 1trea District to "B" Residence and "A" Height and Area Districts has been given public hearing before the City Plan Commission at a special meeting on June 12, 1952. REPORT OF CITY PLAN COMMISSION To the Common Council City of South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: Petition of Kathryn and Edward Heston for change of zoning of Lots 45 and 46 in Krou and 'Whitmore Sub. on the east side of Michigan Street between Woodside Street and Donmoyer Avenue, from "B" Residence and "A" Height and Area District to "C" Commercial and 'tD" Height and Area District has been given public hearing before the City Plan Commission at a special meeting June 12, 1952. REGULAR MEETING OR DINANC E AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 55 AND 59 OF CHAPTER 29 OF ORDINANCE 3709 APPROVED JULY 12, 1949, COMMONLY KNOW AS ^MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1949. JULY 14TH. 1952 • • The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilmen Niezgodski made a motion to refer the ordinance to the Committee of the Whole. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Contract heretofore entered into by and between the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and the Rieth -Riley Construction-Company of South Bend, Indiana, for the re- surface paving of CHAPIN STREET from the south line of Washington Avenue to.t he northwesterly line of Prairie Avenue for the contract price of Eighty thousand, nine hundred sixty -nine dollars and no cents ($80,969.00) is confirmed and approved. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Glass made a motion that the Board of Public Works report to the Council at their next meeting on July 28th on what is being done about the East Jefferson Boulevard sewer. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the City Attorney notify the Chief of Police and he in turn notify the Desk Sargeant in regard to calls received relative to enforcing ordinance regarding sprinklers setting in center of sidewalks. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Niezgodski made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by Councilman Muszynski.
