HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-02-51 Council Organization Meeting MinutesORGANIZATION MEETING JANUARY 2ND, 1951 WNTE Us• Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday, January 2nd,,,1951, at, 7:38 P.M., pursuant to'a call for Special Meeting for the purpose of electing officers for the year 1951. The Honorable George A. Schock calla& the meeting to order and the following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -at -Large Stanley Korpal and Albert Tellson; 1st "district, Councilman Cloyd A. Bestle; 2nd District, Councilman Clem Niezgodski; 3rd District, Councilman Walter Glass; 4th District, Councilman Alvin P. Kemper; 5th District, Councilman Walter C. Erler, and 6th District, Councilman Chester E. Muszynski. The Honorable George A. Schock called for nominations for President of the Council for the year 1951. Councilman Muszynski nominated Councilman Niezgodski for President of the Council. Councilmen Korpal seconded the nomination. Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Erler, Councilman Tellson made a motion that the nominations be closed. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Upon roll call, Councilman Niezgodski received four votes (Korpal, Tellson, Niezgodski, Muszynski) and Councilman Erler received four votes ( Erler, Bestle, Glass, Kemper). 5- MINUTE RECESS Councilman Niezgodski made a motion for a five minute recess. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried, and Council recessed for five minutes. Upon reconvening, Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Tellson for President. Councilman Muszynski seconded the nomination. .Councilman Erler made a motion that the nomination be closed. Councilman Glass seconded the motion., Motion was unanimously carried. Upon roll call the following result was hadr 4 votes for Niezgodski (Korpal, Niezgodski, Kemper and Muszynski); 3 votes for Tellson ( Erler, Tellson and Glass); 1 vote for Erler (Bestle). Upon the vote being announced, Councilman Niezgodski was declared being elected; President for the year 1951. Councilman Niezgodski nominated Councilman Kemper for Vice- President. Councilman Bestle seconded the nomination. Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Erler. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the nominations be closed. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried, and upon roll call Councilman Kemper received five votes (Korpal, Bestle, Niezgodski, Kemper and Muszynski), and Councilmen Erler received three votes ( Erler, Tellson and Glass). Councilman Muszynskl made a motion that the appointment of a member to the City Plan Commission be referred to the City Attorney for opinion. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no other business, Councilman Erler made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by Councilman Tellson. Motion carried, and Council adjourned at 8:15 P.?d.
