REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES
MAY 8TH, 1950
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the
at 8::14 P.M. with all members present except Councilman Kemper.
To the Common Council of the :City of South Bend:
Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, M uld respectfully report that they have
inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend
that the same be approved.

To the Honorable Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana:

University of Notre Dame Du Lac, an Indiana corporation, the Congregation of Holy Cross, Priests Society,
Indiana Provinee, and St. Mary's Academy, an Indiana corporation, and The Crown Development Company, Inc:,
respectfully represent and alleges
1. That they are now the owners in fee simple of ahm et of real estate in St. Joseph County, Indiana, bounded
by a line running as follows:
Beginning at a point 250 feet South and 200 feet West of the Northeast corner
SE4 of Sec 24, T37N, R-29; thence Nest along present city limits 965 feet to
the present North and South city limits; thence South 734.85 feet to the South
line of University of Notre Dame property; thence Easterly 724072 feet to point
of curve; thence Northeasterly along said curve 199.44 feet to point of tangency
of curve (Said curve has an angle of intersection of 12041, tangent of 100 feet,
and radius of 947.17 feet); thence Northeasterly along tangent to said curve to
present city limits; thence South along present city limits to point 1050 feet
South of centerline of Donmoyer Avenue (East and West center -line of See 24); .
thence East 200 feet to West line of See 19, T37N, R3E (centerline of Miami St.)
thence South along the West line of said Sec 19 a distance of 1536.3 feet to the
South line of said See 19; thence East along the South line of said Sec 19 to
the North and South center -line of said Sec 19; thence North 1217.6 feet to the
present city limits; thence West along the present city limits 1457.69 feet;
thence North along the present city limits 360 feet; thence West along the
present city limits 1373-'feet to a point 200 feet West of East line of Sec 24;
thence North along present city limits a distance of 976.4 feet to place of
beginning.
That petitioners, and each of them, desire that said above described territory, being contiguous to the
present southern city limits to the City of South Bend, be annexed to and constitute thereafter a part of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, and submit herewith proposed form of ordinance for the accomplishment of that
purpose.
?�REFORE, petitioners respectfully pray and request that this Common Council adopt such proposed form of
ordinance for the annexation of said described territory to the City of South Bend..

PETITION
TO THE CITY COUNCIL
May 8th, 1950
The signers of the attached remonstrance request the Board and the Bus Company to reconsider the change of the
routing of the Portage bus as approved by the Board on April 24, 1950, and suggest as alternatives several
routes as shown in the attached map.
The signers are substantially, with minor exceptions, property owners and most of them purchased their homes
at a time subsequent to the initiation of the present bus service on Inglewood Place. The signers also have
many small children for whom the operation of a bus will present a new and additional traffic hazard. Very
few of the signers are regular users of the bus service and therefore the convenience of the bus service is
not important to them as is indicated by their signatures*
It is the understanding of the signers that the proposed change in service was initiated on behalf of the
residents in the new "Pin Hook Manor" section. It is not the intent or desire of the signers of this
remonstrance to interfere with the furnishing of service to the Pin Hook residences; rather it is their
intent and purpose to submit to the Board and Company the fact that such service can be afforded by the
adoption of a route different from that which the Company and Board passed upon on April 24, 1950. Each
of the proposed alternate routes does give this service and each would seem to have fully as much merit
and advantage to the people who are directly affected as does the route which would follow Hollywood between
Oakwood and Woodlawn.
We have colored on the map our preference of proposed alternate routes in the order of preference 1 in Red,
2 in Blue and 3 in Green.

southwest corner of Stocker Place and Portage Avenue, in said City of
South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana,

"D" Height and Area District.

To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
May 8, 1950
Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance prohibiting the sale, lending, giving away,
or possession of obscene, lewd, indecent or lascivious phonograph records,.sound transcriptions, wire
recordings or similar device or articles, and providing penalties for violation thereof ".
Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance should go
to the Council a.favorable.

STREET FROM NORTHWOOD DRIVE TO CORBY STREET TO CHURCHILL
DRIVE.
The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Korpal made a motion
for suspension of rules. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of
7 ayes - l absent (Kemper).

REPORT OF CITY PLAN COMMISSION

May 6, 1950
Petition of Joseph J. and Valeria Kopinski for change of zoning of Lots No. 148 and 149 in Swygart.'s 2nd
Addition has gone through public hearing before the City Plan Commission. Action on this petition has been
delayed for several weeks for the purpose of ascertaining if the change requested would meet the needs of
the petitioners
It is now found that if the change to "C" Commercial and "E" Height and Area District is made on Lot No. 149
alone the existing problem will be solved.
The City Plan Commission ree amaends that this change be made,on Lot # 149 alone.
This lot is at the southeast corner of fassnaeht and Yours truly,

There being no. further business, Councilman Glass made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by
Councilman Nieagodski. Motion carried, and Council adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
