COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETIVG
William J. Richardson, a duly elected and qualified Councilman-at-Large of the City of South Bend, Indiana, has
departed this life on.the 21st day of March, 1948. Therefore, you are hereby notified that under and by virtue
of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of South Bend, of the State of Indiana, a Special Meeting of
the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet at the hour of 8 :00 P.M. on Tuesday, the 30th day of
March, 1948, in the Council Chamber Aid said City,
For the purpose of filling the vacancy in the Office of
Councilman -at -Large of the City by the Common Council,
as by law provided.
The - Chief of Police, or any member of the police force, is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this
notice on each and every member of the Common Council of said City, anc*ake due return of such service at said
Special Meeting.

The Special Call was read by the Clerk and ordered placed on file.
Councilman Erler made a motion to postpone the election indefinitely for Councilman -at- Large. Councilman Kemper
seconded the motion. The chair declared the motion out of order. Councilman Erler appealed from the chair.
Thereupon, a roll call was had and the motion failed by a vote of 4 ayes - 4 nayes.
Thereupon Councilman Korpal nominated Ralph A. Richardson for Councilman- atrLarge. Councilman Muszynski seconded
the nomination. Councilman Glass nominated Edward J. Beahm for CouncilmanTat- Large. Councilman Bestle seconded
the nomination. There being no further nominations, the chair ordered roll call which resulted as follows:

No candidate receiving a majority vote, Councilman Erler moved that the Council adjourn. Councilman Glass
seconded the motion. Council adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
