President Brannan presided. The reading' of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived. PETITION To The Common Council and The Honorable Board of Pubic Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: We the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to improve 30th Street No, of the Grand Trunk Railroad crossing by oiling or black topping same similar to work done on Fellows Street from Eckman to Southmore Housing Project. (20 Signers) Councilman Bishop made a motion that the petition.be referred to the Board of Public Works and Safety. Councilman McCarthy seconddd the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE DEPARTMRTT OF PUBLIC MORKS AND SAFETY Mam'hers of the Common Council, City Hall,, South Bend,' Indiana. Gentlemen: August 21, 1947. Upon Mr. Quails recommendation, the Board has ordered street lights installed at Victoria Street at the alley intersection, Euclid and Walnut Streets and Orchard and Monson Streets as per the attached reports. Your Committee of the Ahole, to whom was referred an Ordinance transferring monies from P -11, Salaries and Wages, Police Department, to P -726, Other Equipment, Police Department, $2,400.00, Declaring an emergency, Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance shall be reported to the Council as-favorable. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE MOLE • To The Common Council of the City of South Bend: August 25th, 1947. Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred an Ordinance appropriating moneys for the purpose of defraying the expenses of all budget - operated department of the civil City of South Bend, Indiana, for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 1948, and ending December 31, 1948, including departments, funds and commissions for which money is appropriated, in whole or in part, from funds other than the General Hunds of said City, to -wit: Street, Traffic and Park Department, Firemen's Pension and Policemen's Pension Funds, and the City Plan Commission; providing that such appropriations shall include all outstanding claims and obligations; fixing the salaries of all City Officials and Employees; providing paid vacations for certain officials and employees; repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith; providing a time when the same shall. take effect. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the Ordinance be approved by the Committee of the Whole and reported back to the Common Council with the recommendation that the same be passed as Anended by the attached proposed Amendments. Your Committee of the Mbole to whom was referred an Ordinance fixing the Tax Levy for the Year 1948 for the Municipal Civil City of South Bend, Indiana. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the General Fund should be amended to read(.84)(eighty -four cents instead of(.944) ninety -four cents and 4 mills; mid that the Street and Traffic should be amended to read thirteen cents (.13) instead of sixteen cents and 7 mills; and that the Ordinance shall be reported to the Council favorable as amended. .- ULLIAM J.
