HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-09-47 Council Meeting MinutesBe it remembered that the Common Council of the-City of South'Bend, Indiana, met in Regular Session, in the Council Chambers, City Hall, June 9th, 1947, at 8 :05 P.M.., with all members present except Councilman McCarthy. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived. President Brannan presided. COMONICATION A communication from William E. Yoor, Attorney for The Housing Authority of The City of South Bend, Indiana, dated June 4th, 1947, was read by the Clerk. Councilman Bishop made a motion that the communication be referred to the Mayor, with instructions that he call a meeting of the Council, at his convenience, in order to discuss this matter further. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION To The Common Council of the City of ,South Bend: May 27th, 1947. Gentlemen;. We, the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to improve the lighting condition on Meade and Napier Street, by installing a light on the corner of Meade and Napier Streets. Yours respectfully, (48 Signerrs) Councilman Niezgodski, made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works and Safety. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION To The Common Council of-the City of South Bend. Gentlemen: We, the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to improve Sibley Street from Wilbur Street to College Street, by the construction of concrete payment. Yours respectfully, (18 Signers) Councilman Bishop made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works and Safety. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION We, the undersigned, petition your honorable body to change the robing from Residential to Commercial, 2204 Pleasant Street, Lot +53 -O.P. ( 2 Signers) and (33 ftgners) Councilman Bishop made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Plan Commission. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE' COMMITTEE OF::TBE WHO%E To The Common Council of the City. of'South Bend: June 90 1947. Your Committee of the 'Whole, to vhom was referred an ordinance transferring monies from the General Fund of the City of South Bend and appropriating said sums for the uses and purposes of the following Budgetary Items', to wit: To H251, Repair of Building; To H51 Insurance; declaring an emergency. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance shall be reported to the Council as favorable. Wm J. Richardson Chairman Councilman Bishop made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF TfiE ''MOLE To The Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole, to,.whom was referred an ordinance providing for the annexation of certain territory to the City of South fiend, Indiana. (Wooded Estate4) Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance shall.be reported to the Council as favorable. Wm J. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE MHOLE To The Common Council of the City of South Bend: June 9th, 1947. Your Committee of the Whole to whom-was referred an ordinance providing for the annexation of certain territory to the City of South Bend, Indiana. (Edison Park) Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance shall be reported to the Council as favorable. Win J. REPORT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC IORKS & SAFETY Members of the Common Council, May 29, 1947. City Hall,, South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Upon Mr. iQualls recommendation, the Board of Public Works and Safety have directed that street lights be installed on Ironwood Drive at the entrance to the Ball Park, at the rear of Almond Court and at the inter- section of Calvert and Caroline Streets. He also recommended that the street lighis.in Twyckenham Addition which were turned off during the war be turned on again and the Board approved. We are attaching sketches which are self explanatory. Mr. Qualls informed the Board that lights ordered in at Marquette and Eclipse, Calvert and Marine, Duey Street, had all been installed and were now in service and that the street light at Western Avenue and Kosciusko Street had been changed from a 1000 lumen light to a 4000 lumen light. Attached are three sketches made by Mr. Qualls wherein he recommends the installation of street lights at Ironwood and Washington Streets, Colfax and Hawthorne ,Streets and Colfax and Greenlawn Streets; Ewing and Chapin Streets; Crumstown Avenue and Bendix Drive, Bonds Avenue and Bendix drive and Frast Boulevard and Bendix Drive. Mr. Qualls also informed the Board that the light ordered in at Calvert and Caroline Streets had bee installed and was now in service. Very truly yours BOARD OF PUBLIC" MRKS AND SAFETY James P. The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Niesgodski made-a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Committee of the Whole for Public Hearing on June 23rd, 1947, at 7 :30 P.M. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE N0. 3604 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF CERTAIN PERSONAL PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND. The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Bishop made a motion for suspension of-rules. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 2 absent (McCarthy and Korpal) The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 2 absent (McCarthy and Korpal) ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2331 (AS AMENDED) COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.a. The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Committee of the Whole for Public Hearing on June 23rd, 1947, at 7:30 P.M.
