REGULAR :MEETING
1 RCH 10th, 1947
Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City-of South Bend, Indiana, met in Regular Session
in the Council Chambers, City Hall, March_.10th, 1947, at 7 :40 P.M., with all members present.
President Brannan presided. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived.
COMMUNICATION
A communication was read from Governor Ralph F. Gates, "dated "February 27th, 1947, acknowledging
receipt of the Resolution sent to him on February 25th, 1947, by the City Clerk, pursusntt to the
instructions of the Common Council.
Councilman Bishop made a motion that the communication be placed on file. Councilman Niezgodski seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
COMMUNICATION:
A communication from &ith- Douglas, Contactors, Inc., dated March 1, 1947, was read, concerning refuse
collection or garbage disposal.
Councilman Heideman made a motion that the communication be referred to the Board of Public 7orks and Safety.
Councilman McCarthy seconded themotion. Motion carried.
PETITION
To The Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana.
Gentlemen:
March 10th, 1947.
Ile, the undersigned property oxners, petition your honorable body to install a street light at the corner of
Queen Street and Allen Street.

Councilman Richardson made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public . ".'orks and Safety.
Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried.
REPORT OF THE BOARD OF POIcKS AND SAFETY
Members of the Common Council,
City Hall,
South Bend, Indiana.

March 6th, 1947.
At a regular meeting of the Board of Public" t#orks and Safety held on Monday, March 3, 1947, Mr. Qualls,
Superintendent of the Electrical Department, informed the Board that the street light ordered in on the
1`est side of Main Street in the 1700 block, had been installed and was now in service. Also that the
light on Fairview Street Test of High Street had been changed from a 1000 lumen to a 4000 lumen light.
Enclosed please.find a report made by Mr. Qualls on the petition for a street light at Marquette and
Eclipse Streets. The Board approved the above installation and directed Vr. Qualls to order it in.

Councilman Bishop made a motion that the report be accepted and concurred with. Councilman Korpal seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
PETI TION:
Councilman McCarthy mdde a motion that the Board of Public 5orks and Safety be requested to contact the
Electrical Superintendent and have him make a report to the Council as to the present status.of.'the
petition for a street light at the corner of 24th and Hastings Street, which the' °;Board :of Public Works
and Safety, reported on November 19th, 1946, had been referred to Mr. Qualls for investigation and
report.` '° Gounc lm= Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Councilman Hull made a motion that the Board of Public ??corks and Safety be requested to make an investigation
and report back to the Council, the reason why the I & M, has-::. not installed the eighteen street lights or more,
now on file with them. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried.

All ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF FIRE" HOSE FOR USE
BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEI'7D.
The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Niezgddski made a motion for suspension of
rules. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays.
The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays.

The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Bishop made a motion for suspension of rules.
Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays._.
The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays.
There being no further business, Council adjourned at 8 P.M.
