HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-10-47 Council Meeting MinutesNG 10th. 1947 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chambers, City Hall, February 10th, 1947, at 7:45 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Mirocha, Brannan and Richardson. Councilman Hull, Vice - President of the Council, presided in the absence of the President. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting; was waived. PETITION We, the undersigned property o1rners request that a street light be installed at the intersection of East Victoria Street and South St. Joseph St. (26 Signers) Councilman Heideman made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Works and Safety, Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. RETORT OF COMUITTEE OF THE 1m,11OLE February 10th, 1947, To The Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Tftole to whom was referred "An Ordinance requiring the New York Central Railroad Company and the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company to install and maintain the latest improved automatic Flashlight Signals and Automatic Short :arms Gates at the Arnold Street crossing over the tracks and right - of -way of the Illinois Division of the New York Central Railroad Company and the right -of -way and tracks of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company in the City of South "end, Indiana "'. Re spectfully'report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance be reported favorable to the Council. Stanley C. Korpal, Chairman Councilman Niesgodski made a motion that the report be accepted. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE 7rdOLE To The Common Council of the City of South Bend: Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion. February 10th, 1943. Your Committee of the 19,nole to whom was referred "An Ordinance Transferring monies from the General Fund of the City of South Bend and appropriating said sums for the uses and purposes of the following Budgetary items, to -wit: To Police Department - P726 Other Equipment, $5,000.00; to Fire Department - Q726 Other Equipment, $1200.00; declaring an emergency:' Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance be reported favorable to the Council. Your Committee of the 'thole to whom was referred "An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 2331 (As Amended) commonly known as the Zoning Ordinance of the City of South °end, Indiana (Prairie Avenue between Nash & Jackson). Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance be reported to the Council as favorable. Stanley C. Korpal, Chairman. Gentlemen: Petetion for change of zoning classification of Lots 6 and 7 in Hollowell and Smiths' Sub. from commerical to Light Industrial District was considered by the City Plan Commission at their regular meeting February 6th. This change is not recommended. These lots are at the N.7% Corner of Linden Ave.and Huey St., D. Moomaw, Secretary Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the report be accepted. The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman McCarthy made a motion for suspension of rules. Councilman Heideman seconded the motion. Motion carried by -.a roll call vote of 6 ayes - 0 nays t 3 absent (Richardson, Mirocha and Brannan) The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 6 ayes - 0 nays - 3 absent (Richardson, Mirocha and Brannan) Councilman Hull stated that he wished to go on record complimenting the Traffic Committee for their fine work. Mr. James Nafe, 1815 Miami Street appeared before the Council concerning a building at 1800 Miami Street, which was started several years ago and has never been completed. Mr. Nafe stated that I'at... ;'Way e has an ordinance covering conditions of this type -.' The City Attorney promised to inquire from Ft. 11,"ayne as to whether they have an( Ordinance and what it covers.
