3e it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session
in.the Council Chambers, City* Hall, January 27th, 1947, at 7 :30 P.M., with all members.present except
Councilman McCarthy. President Brannan presided. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting
was waived.
COMMUNICATION
A communication was read from George Hupp, !resident, For The Executive Board, Studebaker Local #5, UAW - -CIO,
with regard to the futile attempts of the Civic Governing .,Agencies, to solve the traffic problem in the
downtown South Fend area.
Councilman Niezgodsk i made a motion that Surd Cohen, Traffic 11.1anager of Studebaker Local #5, be notified of
the meeting of the Traffic Commission at 3 P.M., on January 28th, 1947, in the Council Chambers, and that
the communication be referred to the Traffic Commission. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion
carried.

Attached please find copies of recommendations made by Mr. William Qualls, Electrical Superintendent, to the
Board of Public Works and Safety, for the installation of street lights at the intersections of Ucott and
Donald Streets,Orangr,- and Brokkfield Streets, Orange and College Streets and Calvert and Marine Streets.

The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the Ordinance be set
for Public Hearing on February 10th, 1947, at 7:30 P.M. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Bishop made a motion for suspension of rules.
Councilman Neizgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent

ARM GATES AT THE ARNOLD STREET CROSSING OVER THE TRACKS AND RIGHT -OF-
WAY OF_'.THE ILLINOIS DIVISION OF THE NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY

By unanimous vote the forty -eight hour notification rule was suspended on this ordinance.

Councilman Mirocha made a motion that William Qualls, Elgctrical Superintendent, The Board of Works and Safety �
and the City Engineer, investipete the lighting on Iestern Avenue and that they confer with the State Officials
on the widening of this thorofare. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the Board of Public Works and Safety be notified of the traffic light
at Walnut and Lincolnway West, which is not in workable condition. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
