HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-13-46 Council Meeting MinutesBe it remembered that the Common Council of the City of'South'Bend, Indiana, met in regular isession in the Council Chambers, City Hall, on Monday, May 13th, 1946, at 7 :45 P.M.,, with all members present except Councilman Hull. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived. President K orpal presided. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE. 7EOLE TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND: Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred an Ordinance transferring moneys from the General Fund of the City of South Bend and appropriating said sums for the uses and purposes of the following budgetary items, to -wit; to Police Department---Office' epartment -- Office Supplies, $200.00;*General Supplies, $400.00; repairs of equipment, $900.00; Office Equipment, $400.00;'Motor'Equipment, $2,925.48: To Fire Department -- General Supplies, $500.00 Medical and Surgical Services, $300.00; Repairs to Buildings and Structures, $4,400.00; -Motor Equipment, $1500.00: Transferring moneys from the Street and Traffic Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and appropriating said sums for the uses and purposes of the - following budgetary items, to -wit: To Street Department-- Insurance'$600.00;other Garage and Motor Supplies, $500.00; parts of equipment, $750.00; Repairs of Equipment, $200.00; Declaring an Emergency. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance should be reported to the Council favorably with the understanding that if the $600.00 is a duplication that it be stricken from the Ordinance.. Councilman Ri chardson, made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE NIOLE a TO-THE COMMON COUNCIL`OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND: Your Comrdittee of the V'dhole to whom was referred an Ordinance for the emergency appropriation of $3,000.00 and for the transfer thereof from the General Fund of the City of South. -6end, Indiana, in the Budget of the City Controller to an account known as B -53, being the awards, refunds and indemnities account of the said City Controller of the City of South Fend, Indiana. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance should be reported to the Council .as °- favorable. Councilman Brannan made a motion that the report be accepted. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION To the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. !May 13th, 1946. At their regular meeting May 2nd, the City Plan Commission considered the petition.of Clarence A. Hertel and Leo Stebner, for change of zoning classification of part of large Lot #14, Samuel L. Cottrells' :First Additiork. This part of the.large.Lot 14, is the South West 4 which lies at the N.E. Corner of E. Colfax Ave., and Notre Dame Ave., formerly occupied by the Coquillard School. This change is not recommended by the City Plan Co mission. Returned herewith is remonstrance against this change signed ny_ property owners in the vicinity of`this lot. Councilman Bishop made a motion that the report be accepted. Motion carried. REPORT FROM THE BOARD OF PUBLIC MRKS AND SAFETY Members of the Common Council, City of South Bend. Gentlemen: D. MOOMAW, Seey Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion. May 6, 1946. The Board of Public Works and Safety acknowledges the receipt of petitions for street lights at North Side Boulevard and Thirty - fourth Streets; Huey and Linder_ Streets; Orange and North Brookfield Streets and Calhoun and North Kaley Streets. These petitions have been referred to Mr. V'.'illiam 1;ualls, Electrical Superinterident, for investigation and report to the Board. _ JAMES CONBOY, Clerk. Councilman Brannan made a motion that the petitions for streetlights at 24th and Hastings and 30th and Hastings, be investigated and a report be given to the Council at the next meeting. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. 6 Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that after Mr. Qualls has made his report to the Board of Works and Safety, that the Board of Works and Safety, made, a report to the Council as to the results of the investigations. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE BOARD OF MRKS AND SAFETY Members of the Common Council, City of South Bend. Gentlemen: May 8th, 1946. The Board of Public Works and Safety acknowledges the receipt of a petition signed by the residents of the Belleville Gardens Area, requesting bus service West on Sample Street to Mayflower Road. We are wwaiting the Transportation Committee of the Council to set a date for the meeting with the Bus Company representative and the Board of Public ;'forks and Safety. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2331 (AS AMENDED) OF TTiE ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. (LOTS NUMBERED ONE (1), TV4:} (Z) AND THREE (3) OF HARTMAN AND "WOOD7CRTHtS ADDITION TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND) The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Richardson made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the City Plan Commission. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING DOGS FROM RUNNING AT LARGE 7TI7HIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The Ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Brannan made a motion that the Ordinance'be set for Public Hearing on May 27th, 1946. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried.
