HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-25-46 Council Meeting MinutesBe it remembered that the Common-Council of-the City of South oend; Indiana, met in Regular Session, in the Council Chambers, City Hall, on Monday, March 25th, 1946, at 7 :35 P.M., with all members present except Councilman, Hull, Bishop and Richardson. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was - waived. Councilman John Mirocha presided at the request of the President of the Council, Stanley Korpal. COMMUNICATION: A letter from Ivar kennings, dated March 15th, 1946, with regard to the petition of the Walnut Grove Mutual Housing Corporation, to re'-classify the Walnut Grove area to a commercial rating that would permit certain retail services, was read. Councilman McCarthy made a motion that the letter be referred to the City Plan Commission. Councilman Heideman seconded the motion. Motion carried. COMMUNICATION: A letter from Douglas G. Reid,_ President, of the Southmore Mutual Housing Corporation, dated March 21st, 1946, with reference to mutual ownership of the project was read. Councilman McCarthy made a motion that the communication be referred to the City Attorney and that he be instructed-to draw up the necessary letter or resolution and make a report at the next-meeting of the Council, and further moved that a copy of this letter or resolution be sent to the City Housing Authority, who was put in operation by this Council, and ask them for their comments at the next meeting of the Council. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION: South Bend, Indiana. Ro the Honorable Board of Public Works and March 13, 1946 Safety of the City of'South Bend, Indiana, and to.the Common Council. Gentlemen: We the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to install a street light at 30th and Hasting Streets. (50 Signers) Councilman Brannan, made a motion that this petition go to the Board of Public Works and Safety, and that they act on this petition and get a report back at the next'regular. meeting of the Councilt. and that the petition for a street light at 24th and Hasting Streets, be put in circulation and that some action be taken and a report made to the Council at the next meeting of the Council. Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION: South Oend, Indiana. March 25, 1946. To the Common Council, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Petition of Drewrys Limited U.S.A, Inc., for change of zoning classification of property adjacent to their present plant was considered by the City Plan Commission at their meeting March 22nd, 1946. This change is not recommended and the petition together with the written remonstrance of neighboring property owners is returned herewith. D. MOOMAW, Secy Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION: March 25, 1946. To the Common Council, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Petition of Michael Machowiak, et. al. for change of zoning classification of Lot D, in Davis Plat which is 715 LaPorte Avenue, was considered by the City Plan Commission at a Special meeting March 22nd, 1946. The City Plan Commission recommends that this change be made and that the change be made to include the several small lots between Lot D and the junction of LaPorte Avenue with Wilber. D. MOOMAW., Secretary Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION: March 25, 1946. To.-the-.-Common Council, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Petition of Clifford and Bernice Gould for change of zoning classification of portion of Lot #105, Bercliff Estate from "A" Use and "A" Height and area district to "C" Use and "D" height and area district was considered by the City Plan Commission at a Special Meeting March 22nd, 1946. This change is recommended as petitioned for. D. MOOMAW, Secretary Councilman McCarthy made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried. 420 MARCH 25th, 1946- Regular Meeting continued F REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION: March 25, 1946. To The Common Council, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Petition of W. D. Hobbick, et. al. for change of zoning classification of Lots No. 13, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 24 Parry's 2nd Addition from "B" Use and "D" Height and Area districts to "C ": Use and "D" Height and Area Districts was considered by the City Plan Commission at their Special "fleeting March 22nd, 1946. This change is recommended as petitioned for. D. MOOMAW, Secretary Councilman Brannan made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. - MOTION: Councilman McCarthy made a motion that Mr. Moomaw, give the street address in his change of zoning reports in order that the Council will know the-exact location of the property involved. Councilman Niezgodski'seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2.331 PFarry's Second Addition to the City of South Bend -) (Eddy Street.across from Jefferson School) The ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Brannan made a motion that the Ordinance be set for public hearing on April 8th, 1946. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. MOTION: Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the Clerk notify the School Board of the City of South tend, that a traffic hazard exists at 3 :30"P.M.,'at various schools throughout the City, for instance at Nuner, Linden, Colfax, Washington, etc., and suggest to them that these various schools be dimissed a.few minutes before 3 :30 P.M., for the protection of the children.
