You are hereby notified that under and by- virtue of the authority vested in me as mayor of the City of South Lend, in the State of Indiana, a special meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet at the hour of 7 :30 O'clock P.M., on November 14th, 1945, in the Council Chambers in said City for the purpose of acting upon the following Ordinances of the City and a Resolution known as: ORDINANCE NO. The Ordinance .A:--as ;F..iven third' reading and passed by a roll call vote of 6 ayes - 0 nays - 3 absent (Hull, Bishop and ilcCarthy) RESOLUTION rtiI FFiEAS, the Ccmmon Council of the City of South Lend, Indiana, has been advised that there is a serious shortage of housing accommodations available within the City Limits of said City, and ";riEREAS, large nuipbers of Veterans, being released from the ;..rmed Forces, are returning to the City, and r Par���EAS, the inability of these Servicemen and their families to find proper housing within the City Limits of South Bend, prevents them from returning to normal life upon their release from the Armed Forces. 1 VVIIEREAS, these conditions cause additional and unwarranted hardships for these men and their families. l N07 THaEFORE, be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, that: 1. An immediate need exists within the City Limits of the City of South Bend, Indiana, for the providing` "of temporary housing for former "members of the Armed Forces of the United States, serving during V;orld War No. 2, and 2. The Federal Government has certain housing facilities available, v&ich may be leased for use within the City of South- Bend, Indiana, and the proper authorities of the Federal Government have indictaed that certain of such facilities may be assigned to the City of South Bend. 3. The ltiayor be, and he _i is hereby authorized to enter into such agreements a s . may be required by the Federal, Government to consummate the lease by the City of South fiend of -such temporary housing facilities, and Jte vayor is further authorized to make such other agreements and to perform sucholac s and things as may be necessary to obtain such housing and to arrange for its use in the City of South Bend, Indiana. proper 4. The 'Mayor, or the otherZoffi cer s of the City of South Bend, Indiana, be and they are hereby authorized to undertake to pay, or to cause to be paid, all charges and expenses involved in transporting the temporary housing to the City of south Bend, Indiana; and caosing it to be erected and made ready for occupancy within said City Limits. 5. All such temporary housing brought to the City of South Bend, Indiana, in accordance with the authority granted izm this Resolution, shall be solely for the use of and b,sed by married, honorably - discharged Veterans of World '14ar No. 2, and their families. 6. The authority of the Mayor of the City of South Lend, and of all Administrative Officers of said City, under this Resolution shall terminate and cease on December 31st, 1947; and no such housing shall be further used within the City of South amend, under the authority of this Resolution.
