HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-09-44 Council Meeting MinutesBe it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chambers, City Hall, on Monday, October 9, 1944, at 9 :15 P.M. with all members present except Councilmen Bishop, Brannan and Heideman. President Wi'ezgodski presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. REPORT OF THE C9,1VITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Oct. 9, 1944 Your Committee of the Whols to whom was referred "AN ORDINANCE REDUCING CERTAIN BUDGETARY ITEMS FOR THE YEAR 1944 IN THE BUDGETS OF THE STREET DEPART! Your Ordinance Committee to whom was referred the Street Department ordinance requesting the appropriation of $7500 for the purpose of procuring equipment for the Street "Department, has investigated this ordinance and recommends its passage for the following reason $4100 of the above amount is' proposed for the purchase of a loader which will facil itate the work of the Street Department to the extent that it will relieve as high as fifteen men in the handling of crushed stone, cinders, snow and other materials. Your committee recognizes that due to present labor shortage this piece of equipment is necessary for the proper functioning of the Street Department. An amount of $3400 is needed to procure a new street sweeper to replace equipment which is now thirteen years old and which is practically obsolete. Attorney Farabaugh reported to the Council that the railroad company had approved the expenditure of money and requisition had been placed for materials necessary for the repair of the Arnold, Meade and Olive St. crossings - said materials to be delivered in two or three weeks.
