HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-13-43 Council Meeting Minutes350 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in. regular session, Monday, Diecembe 13, 1943, at 7:44 P.M. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, with all members present except Councilman Richardson. President Brannan presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was deferred. A communication from Clyde E. Williams, City Civil Engineer, reported a meeting with A.E. Reed, General Foreman, and L. D. Shoda, Supervisor, of the Pennsylvania R.R. at which time they agreed to make up a program for the reconstruc- tion of their crossings to be followed next spring. Councilman Heideman made a motion to place the communication on file. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. A communication addressed to Marie H. Nelson, City Clerk, from M. S. Smith, Supt. of the Pennsylvania R.R. relative to the Resolution passed by the Common Council regarding railroad crossings, was read and ordered placed on file. A communication from the Board of Public Works and Safety (Nathan Levy) in regard to a $3,900 item for the repair of the Jefferson Street bridge, Account No. H -251B, was ordered placed on file on motion of , Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Niezgodski. REPORT OF THE.COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: DEC. 13, 1943 Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An ordinance reducing the appropriation for the year 1943 of the W.P.A. Fund in the amount of $6,500.00: For the transfer of $6,500.00 from said W.P.A. Fund to the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana: For the emergency appropriation of $6,500.00 to pay for a portion of the cost of paving a part of Chippewa Avenue, and the transfer of said $6,500. -00 from the General Fund of the City of South Bend Indiana to an account known as the Chippewa Pavement Fund. Respectfully reporti that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance shall be reported to the Council.as favorable. GEO. A. HULL, Acting Chairman Councilman Hull made a motion to acdept the report. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3476 AN ORDINANCE REDPCING THE APPROPRIATION FOR THE YEAR 1943 OF THE W.P.A. FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,500.00; FOR THE TRANSFER OF $6,500.00 FROM SAID W.P.A. FUND TO THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, II9DIANA; FOR THE EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION OF $6,500.00 TO PAY FOR A PORTION OF THE COST OF PAVING A PART OF CHIPPEWA AVENUE, AND THE TRANSFER OF SAID $6,500.00 FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA TO AN ACCOUNT K40WN AS THE CHIPPEWA PAVEMENT FUND. (Chippewa Ave. from Michigan St. to Southmore Heights) The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Richardson). ORDINANCE NO. 3477 AN ORDINANCE FOR THE EXTENSION AND OPENING OF THIRTIETH STREET FROM THE-SOUTH LINE OF THE RIGHT -OF -WAY OF THE GRAND TRUNK WESTERN RAILROAD COMPANY TO THE NORTH LINE OF THE RIGHT -OF -WAY OF THE GRAND TRUNK WESTERN RAILROAD COMPANY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAVING OF THE ROADWAY. The ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Bishop made a motion for the suspension of rules. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion.
