HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-24-43 Council Meeting Minutes336 MAY 2-4, 1943 Be it remembered that the members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session, May 24, 1943, in the Council Chambers, City Hall, at 7:32 P.M. with all members present except Councilman McCarthy. President Brannan presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. REPORT OF CITY PLAN COIRMISSION May 15, 1943 To the Common Council - City of South Bend, Ind. Gentlemen: The City Plan Commission has considered the petition of John C. Rummel et al for change of zoning classification of property fronting upon Dubail Ave. and Dayton St. from the first alley east of Michigan St. from A. residence distr to B residence district. This change is approved, but with the suggestion that the first alley west of High St. be made the eastern boundary of the district changed. Yours truly, D. MOOMAV1, Secty. Councilman Bishop made a motion that the report be concurred with and an ordinance drawn to cover same. Councilman Richardson seconded the motion. Motion carried. Richardson made a motion to accept the report and place on file. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE. AN ORDINANCE RE7DUCING tHE APPROPRIATION FOR REPAIRS OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN THE CEMETERY DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA IN THE SMOUNT OF $500..00; APPRO* PRIATING $500.00 TO THE PROPERTIES - OTHER EQUIPMENT FUND OF THE CEMETERY 'DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA; DECLARING AN 3.1ERGENCY. The ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Hull made a motion to refer the ordinance to the Committee of the Whole. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3450 AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING AN OFFER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MADE BY THE FEDERAL WORKS ADMINISTRATOR AND PROVIDING FOR THE GRANT OF $179250.00 TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING CERTAIN ACCESS ROAD FACILITIES AND PROVIDING CERTAIN CONDI- TIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION THEREOF: AUTHORIZING THE PROPER. OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF .SOUTH BEND 'INDIANA TO CARRY OUT THE TERAS OF SAID GRANT, TO EXECUTE NECESSARY CONTRACTS AND TO EXPEND APPROPRIATED FUNDS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Bishop made a motion for the suspension of the rules. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (McCarthy). The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1'absent (McCarthy). A communication from Councilman J. M. McCarthy, proposing a survey of the critical rubbish disposal situation and suggesting mean for correction, was read by the Clerk. Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the Board of Works be instructed to make-la survey of the situation and report to the Council. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried.
