HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-23-42 Council Meeting Minutes306 II REGULAR MEETING MARCH 23. 1942 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chambers, City Hall, March 23, 1942, at 8:32 P.M. with all members present except President William Pulaski. Vice - president Hull presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. REPORT OF CQ&ITTEE OTT MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE CM1MITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common - Council of the City of South Bend: March 23, 1942 Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance fixing the salaries of certain city officials and employees of the City of South Bend, Indiana effective January 1, 1943 and repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict therewith." Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the salary of the Deputy City Con- troller shall be increased to $2400.00; the salary of the City Clerk shall be increased to $3000.00; the Mayor shall receive $4,576.00; the City Controller shall receive $3168.00; the City Civil Engineer shall receive $3168.00; the County Treasurer - Ex Officio City Treasurer shall receive $1200.00; the -City Judge shall receive $3168.00; members of the Common Council -shall receive $500.00 each; the County Auditor for service to Civil City shall receive $264.00 the City Attorney shall receive $3168.00. Leo M. Jordan, Chairman Councilman Brannan made a motion to accept the report. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3414 .(as amended) . AN ORDINANCE FIXING.THE SALARIES OF CERTAIN CITY OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 1943 AND REPEALING ALL ORDIRIANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Pulaski). ORDINANCE NO. 3415 t AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF AN EASF.MENT FOR WAREHOUSE ERECTION BETWEEN THE'GITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND THE WORK PROJECTS AJDAINISTRATION. .The ordinance was given first and second reading. Upon the suggestion of City Attorney Levy, Councilman Niezgodski made a motion for the suspension of rules. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Pulaski). The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Pulaski). (ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE TRANSFERRING THE AMOUNT OF $16,000 FROM THE GENERAL, FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA TO THE ACCOUNT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF SAID CITY: APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT FOR THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN REAL ESTATE: DIRECTING.AND AUTHORIZING THE PROPER OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND TO MAKE AND EFFECT THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN REAL ESTATE AT THE PRICE OF $16,000,; AUTHORIZING THE PROPER OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BENTS TO ASSIGN SAID PROPERTY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PARKS OF SAID CITY FOR USE FOR PARK PURPOSES: AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Heideriian made a motion to refer the ordinance to the Committee of the Whole for public hearing on April 13. Councilman Jordan seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further busiQ;�ss, Councilman Niezgodski made a motion for adjournment at 8:50 P.M. Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion.
