A copy of this R solution has been sent to'each of the Post Commanders in South Bend, and I have made request of E ch Commander to send as many members of their Post as possible, to the Council meeting June 17th. WHEREAS, our government is now engaged in lodging a program for the defense of our country and, WHEREAS, our government has a right to expect the united support of all citizens in this program and, THEREAS, there has been distributed in the City of South Bend certain pamphlets purporting to advocate the adoption of a communistic form of Zovernment in this country, NOW' THEREFORE, in protesting the distribution of such pamphlets and desiring to uphold our government in protecting the interests of our country and its people, Post 1303 of the American Legion does hereby petition yol Honorable Council to take such,steps as are necessary to curtail the distribution of communistic and subversive pam. phlets in our City. Post $303 further petitions your Honorable Council to the end that the proper authorities of the City South Bend shall investigate and prosecute all persons distributing such literature without proper authority and against the peace and common good of the citizens of South Send. REPORT OF THE C%9AITTEE OF THE VIFIOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the "Whole to whom was referred an ordinance authorizing the contribution of the sum of not to ex- ceed three thousand (*13000.00) Dollars from the General Fund of the "later Works of the City of South Bend, for the pavement of ?rest Angela Avenue between Riverside Drive and Woodward .Avenue. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in-their opinion this ordinance shall be referred tc the Council favorably. LEO M. JORDAN, Chairman Councilman Pulaski made a motion to accept the report. Councilman Heideman seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COM :KITTFE OF THE A,7,HOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom. was referred an ordinance arendinS sections, 1, 2, 3, 4, 17 of an ordinance numbe ed 2682, being an ordinance regulating the production, grading, labeling, handlinS, pasteurization, distribution, and sale of milk, cream and certain milk products and providing for issuing permits and licenses therefor - Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance shall be tabled and rejected. The motion was carried by a vote of 6 ayes (TcCarthy, Brannan, Jordan, Richardson, Hull, and Pulaski) and 3 nays (Niezgodski, Bishop and Heideman). REPORT OF THE CO'; KITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Thole to whom bras referred a "Proposed Milk .Ordinance for the City of South lend, Indiana, - An ordinance defining "milk" and certain "milk products ", "milk producer ", "pasteurization ", etc, prohibiting the sa: of adulterated and misbranded milk and milk products, requiring permits for the sale of milk and milk products, regu• lating the inspection of dairy farms and mile plants, the examination, grading, labeling, placarding, pasteurization regrading, distribution, and sale of milk and milk products, providing for the publishing df milk grades, the cor_strl tion of future dairies and milk plants, providing for the licensing of dairies - retail and wholesale distributors, th, enforcement of this ordinance, and the fixing of penalties." Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance as amended shall be reported favorably to the Council. LEO M. Motion carried by a vot� of 6 ayes (McCarthy, Brannan, Jordan, Richardson, Hull and Pulaski) and 3 nays (Niezgodski, Bishop and Heideman). Councilman Brannan reported verbally for the Streets and Alleys Committee to the effect that they had contacted the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company relative to more decorative light fixtures for the business section of the city. The -Indiana & Michigan Electric Company agreed to a meeting with the Committee and asked for definite information as to just what type.of ornamentation is desired. President McCarthy asked Councilman Jordan to meet with the group to give them this information to which Councilman Jordan agreed. This ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Hull made a motion for the suspension of the rules. Councilman Jordan seconded the motion. ORDINANCE NO. 3326 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF STREET CAR TRACKS, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA This ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Jordan made a motion for the suspension of the rules. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Motion carried by a vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays. The ordinance was given third reading by title.
