M. All members were present excel5t Councilman James. President Hull presided. The reading of the minutes were dispensed with on motion of Councilman Chambers, seconded by Councilman Pglicki. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: #325.3 Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred an Ordinance amending Ordinance #2945 changing the matter of -fees provided in section 3 from twenty -five dollars per quarter period ko twenty - five dollars per annual period. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter end that in their opinion should be re- ported favorably to the council. Geo. W. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: #3255 Your Committees of the whole to whom was referred an Ordinance fixing the salaries and pro- viding for paid vocations of certain City'officials and employees of the Municipal city of South Bend, Indiana, and repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict there- with. Respectfully repok that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion should be reported favorably to the Council. Geo. W. Goetz, Chairman. The report was accepted by the Council and ordered placed on file. COMMUNICATIONS: A resolution from the South Bend Industrial Union Council was read requesting that they go on record as opposing any reduction in salaries, or any reduction in personnel in the Police, Fire and Electrical Departments of this City. Councilman Kerner moved that said be placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. A letter was read from the St. Joseph County Building trades Council requesting the Common Council to ignore any attempt that may be made, to reduce the wages of the Policemen, Firemen and Electrical "Department, of the City of South Bend, Ind2na.. Councilman fish moved that said be placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. A resolution from the United Electrical Radio & Machine Workers of America. Local #917•- C.I.0. wws read urging the Common Council of the City of South Bend to take steps toward leasing or constructing electric plants and that they submit this resolution to the voters 'at this coming election. Councilman Chambers moved that said be referred to the Ways & Means Committee. Council -nan Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION: T`0 HONORABLE COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH BEND. August 5, 1935 We, the undersigned, comprising all the major taxicab companies of the City of South Bend petition for en alteration in the now existing Taxicab Ordinance Section 13, Par. 4 so that the maximum shall be not more than 25¢ for the first quarter mile or e. fraction thereof. However we are conceiving a, plan which we feel will materially invreast the number of taxicabs riders. Economic conditions have played havoc with our business, We are now going to exert a concerted effort to regain some of the ground that we have lost. We need your help to the extent out - lined above. In siding us you will necesseTy benefit our drivers whose pay is directly depe6 d- ent upon the number of riders. Also you will be serving our citizens to their best interests for increased number of riders means that more citizens of South Bend will be able to use our facilities which are of times so necessary to their general welfare and convenience. Councilman 57 ORDINANCE NO. 3253 An Ordinance amending Ordinance #2948 changing the matter of fees provided in Section 3 from Twenty -Five Dollars per quarter to Twenty -Five Dollars per annual period. The Ordinance was given its third reading by title and placed upon its passage and passed by the following vote: Hull, Goetz, Bfrwa.gen, Kerner, Fish, Chambers, Rasmussen and Palicki. 8 ayes. 0 nays. RESOLUTICN: BE IT RYSOLVED by the Common Council of theCity of South Bend, Indiana, that the Resolution and Action of the Board of Public•Works as Board of WEter Commissioners in transferring Fifty Thousand ($50,000.00) Doliara from the 'Water Department to the General Fund of the said City, done on the 22nd day of August, 1938, a copy of which is hereto attached, be in all things confirmed Pnd such loa.n.of funds is hereby accepted and authorized to be returned on or befoTe December 31st, 1939. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by this 3Boar that this Department make a temporary loan to the General rund of the Municipal City of ouch Bend, Indiana, in the sum of Fifty Thousand ($50,000.00) Dollars providing the Common Council of the Municipal City adopt a resolution authorizing eatd temporary loan, and which said resolution shhll provide further for the re- payment of meld money on or before December 31st, 1939- Chas.
