M. All-members were present. President Fish presided.- Councilman Chambers moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes. Councilman Hull seconded the motion Motion carried. COMMUNICATIONS: A card of app.recietion from Mrs. Fred Woodward was read. Accepted by the council and ordered placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen moved that the Board of Public Safety request the Grand Trunk Rtilroa-d to install flashers at Greenlawn Avenue crossing. Councilman Kerner seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Bierwegen moved to petition.Street Car Company to eliminate street cars on Wash- ington, Chapin and Sample Streets and Prairie Avenue. Councilman Chambers seconded the motion. Matter referred to the.Board of Public.Works. Councilman James moved that the City Clerk be instructed to write the International Association of Police Chiefs for e report giving their suggestions for_ the more effective orgp.nization of the Police Department of the City of South Bend. Be it further resolved that the chief of police of the South -Bend Police Depertment prepare a plan of reorganizption of the Police Depe'r tment for presentation to the Common Council. Ordinance Tabled RESOLUTICY : R E S O L U T I O N BE IT RESOLVED by Knights of Columbus, South Bend Council No. 553, that the Common_ Council of the City of South Bend be, and it is hereby membrialized and requested to adopt en eppropriete resolution to authorize and direct the Board of Public Safety of the City of South Bend end the Chief of Police of said City to permit said Knights of Columbus, South Bend Council No. 553, to place a° Studebaker Sedan Automobile upon the streets of South Bend for the purposes of exhibiting said autpmobile in connection with a. bazaar to be sponsored by said: fraternal organ - ization February 23 to 26 inclusive, 1938, and for the sale of t&ckets to said affair, said authority to be granted for the following days, to -wit: December 27 to December 1, 1937 and January 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29, end February 5, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19, 1938; said automobile to be parked at such places end during such hours as may be determined reason- ably safe and practical by the said City of South Bend.
