MINUTES
OCTOBER 25th, 1937
Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the
regular session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening, October 25th, 1937,
at the hour of 1:25 P. M. All members were present except Councilman Goetz. President Fish
presided. Councilman Chembers moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes, for the
lest meeting. Councilman Bierwagen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
CERTIFICATION OF POSTIFG NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS
An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 2331, passed by the Council June 25, 1923, and commonly
known as the Zoning Ordinance.

copy of the atteched notice-was published in South Bend Tribune and the South Bend News -Times
two daily newspapers, on the 16th and the 23rd of October, 1937, both published in the City of
South Bend, Indiana, also that I have posted notices in the following places: to -wit:
In the Corridor of the City Hall, South Bend, India.na..
In the Corridor of the Court House of the City of South Bend, Indiana
In the Alley in the rear of the Court House, South Bend, Indiana,
all being public places in said City.

Dear Mr. Fish :'
We are extending to you and the other members of the City Council a special invitation to attend
a. safety meeting sponsored by the local Elks' lodge, to beheld at the Elks' Temple on Monday
night, November first, at eight p.m. We have been fortunate in securing Sidney J. Williams, of
the National Safety Council of Chicago, as our principal speaker. There will be others on the
program' who are- rprominent, in safety work in the State of Indians. We feel you will went to
attend this meeting because of your interest in ell safety problems.
This meeting is in conjunction with similar meetings to be held by all Elks' lodges in the United
States. I aim enclosin a copy of our Grand Exalted Ruler's article on -the Elks' Safety Program
which appeared in the 91ctober issue of the Elks' Magazine.

Gentlemen:
We, the undersign d property and automobile owners, being aware of an existing dangerous inter-
section at the corner of Portage Avenue and Angela. Boulevard, hereby petition each and every
one of you to eliminate this hazard by causing to be erected at this intersection an electric
stop rind go signal.

Councilmen Kerner moved that said petition be referred to the Traffic Engineer for his consid-
eration. Councilman RasLussen seconded the motion. Motim carried.

trolling adjacent property on said street, in South Bend, Indiana, petition the said Council to
change the name of the street, Foote Street to Park Lane.

96 Lincoln Manor 2nd Add. from residential to Commercial was acted upon by the C'.ty Plan Comm-
ission at their meeting October, 7th.
This change is not recommended.

of Lot 115 State Bank Outlots 3rd Add. has been considered by the City Plan Commission: at their
meeting Oct. 7th,
There is's slight discrepancy in the description which should reed "all of the remaining portion
of lot #6 except the south 36 feet thereof be changed from C use and F height and area Di.,strict
to B use and B height and area district; and the south 36 feet of lot #7, excepting the west el-
even feet therFof, be changed from B use district and B.height and area district to C use and F
height and area district."
Mr. Stockford has filed e letter with this department to the effect that any transfer of this
pro erty for business purposes will provide in the deed that building shall observe a set -bask
on i11_iam St. even with the residence buildings on that frontage. With this provieic.n the City
Plan Commission sprroves the change.

instructed to draw an ordinance covering petition. Councilman Fish seconded the motion. Motion
carried..

ORDINANCE NO. 3235
An Ordinance.changing the neme of Foote Street from North Michigan Street to North Lafeyette
Street to Park Lane.
The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reeding in full. Councilman
Hull moved to suspend the rules, and that said o±dinence,go to third reeding. Councilmen Ras-
mussen seconded. the motion.
Roll Cull - Null, Bierwagen, James, Kerner, Fish, Chanibers, Rasmussen and Pa.licki ayes. 0 ne.y
Rules suspended and ordinance goes'.to third reading.
The Ordinance was given its third reading by title and placed upon its passage and pwssed
by the following vote: Hull, Bierwage,. James, Kerner, Fish, Chambers, Rasmussen and Palicki.
9 ayes. 0 nays. Ordinance adopted.
There being no further business Councilman Kerner moved to adjourn. Councilman Bierwa.gen second-
ed the moti -n. Motion carried. Council adjourned at 7 :40 P.m.
