HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-27-37 Council Meeting MinutesREGULAR MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 27th, 1937 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the regular session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening, September 27th, 19379 at the hour of 7 :45 P. M. All members were present except Councilmen Goetz and James. President Fish presided. Councilman Rasmussen moved to dispense with the.reading of the minutes fors he last meeting.. Councilman Bierwagen seconded the motion. Motion curried. CERTIFICATION OF POSTING NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS In the 14atter Determining additional Appropriations for extra funds for General Supplies in the Police Department; for Gasoline in the Cemetery Department; for the Special Judge account in th City Judge's Office. REPORT OF.THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: #3230 Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred An Ordinance appropriet ing Five Hundred Twenty - Five Dollars ($925.00) from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Three Hundred Dollars of same to Account P -19 in the Police Department for General Supplies Twenty -Five Dollars 025.00 to Account N -7A in the Cemetery Department for gasoline and Two Hundred'Dollars ($200,00' to the Special Judge Account of the City Judge's Office, Account E -5. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion should be re- ported favorable. Geo. F. Hull, Chairman. September 14, 1937 To: The City Clerk From: The United States Conference of Mayors Subject: Annual Conference of united States Conference of Mayor s Dear Sir: The Executive Committee of the United States Conference of Mayors has directed me to extend to the members of the City Council, through you, a cordial invitation to attend the Annual Confer- ence of the United States Conference of Mayors. The 1937 Conference will be held in Washington on November 15 -17. At this time when so many common problems face the larger cities, it is urgent that effective interchange of information and experience covering municipal affairs take place. The annual Conference serves es a. medium for such interchange between the important cities of the country. Among the major problems to be considered in November are those of Relief, Cities end Industrial Disputes, Housing and the Municipal Airport Problem. Outstanding Federal officials are on the program and there will be ample time for discussifn. No city can afford not to be represented If it is to keep abreast of delelopments, especially on the various Federal programs affecting the cities. On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Conference, I ask that you submit this official invitation to the City Council in order that plans may be made at this time to attend. Motion carried. 5. � 16 ORDINANCE NO. -3230 An Ordinance appropriating Five Hundred Twenty -Five Dollars ($525.00) from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Three Hundred Dollars of same to Account P -19 in the Police. Department for General Supplie$, Twenty -Five Dollars ($25.00) to Account N -7A in the Cemetery Department for Gasoline and Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) to the Special Judge Account of the City Judge's Office, Account E -5. The Ordinance was given its third reeding by title and was placed upon its passage and pass ed by the following vote: Hull, Bierwegen, Kerner, Fish, Chambers, Rasmussen and Palicki. 7 eyes. 0 nays. Ordinance adopted. ORDINANCE NO. 3232 An Ordinance emending Ordinance #3039 establishing councilmanic districts-in the City of South Bend by dividing said.City into six such councilmanic districts, and fixing their bound- aries, and providing for the use of voting machines in elections for nominating and electing officers of said city, and repealing a.11'Ordinences and parts of ordinances in conflict therewit.. The Ordinance w2s given its first reeding by title, its second reeding in full end on motto of Councilmen Chambers was referred to the Election Committee and that- they.r eport back to the council at the next meeting, on October 11th. Councilmen Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motio n carried. On motion of Councilman Chambers, President Fish appointed the Traffic Committee to cooperate with the County Commissioners in rerouting trucks through the City of South Bend.
