M. All members were present except Coun.cilm2r'Goetz. President Fish presided. - • STATE OF INDIAN ?A ) CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY )SS CITY OF SOUTH BEND ) THE COMMON COUNCIL TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: You are hereby notified thet under and by virtue of the Authority by law vested in me as Mayor of the City of South Bend, of the State of Indiana., a Special Meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P. M. or „Cs soon there after hs convenient, on Wednesday evening, August 4th, 1937, for the purpose of considering the following: ORDINANCE NO. 3220 "An Ordin =nce fixing the salaries and providing for paid vacations of certain city officials and employes of the municipal city of South Bend, Indip.r_a, and repealing all ordinances and parts of. Ordinances in conflict *therewith.'t elso ORDINANCE ITO. 216 "An Ordinance fixing the srlsri-es for the various officiAls of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana, for the period commencing Januery. 1, 1938, to December 31, 1938, both inclusive.” And further to consider the Controllers budget estimates for 1938 as recommended by the Mayor of the City of South Bend, and further to consider the controllers estimates of levy needed for the Civil City of South Bend for 1938 as recommended by the Mayor of the City of South Bend. Motion carried. *I 61 •I 1 .I •1 • Councilman Chambers moved that the next order of business be the 3rd rending of Ordinance #3220. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Hand vote: Hull, Kerner, Chambers and Rasmussen - 4 eyes. Bierwngen, James, Fish end Palicki - 4 nays. Motion lost. Councilman James moved that the Mayor being absent, we have the Controller present the tentative budget end the tentative tax levy for the year 1938. Councilman Bierwagen'se'conded the motion. Hand vote: Hull, Kerner, 0hambers 2nd Rasmussen - 4 eyes. Bierwegen, James, Fish and Palicki - 4 ayes. Motion lost. Councilmen James moved thet the estimated reports which have been presented to the Council in written form be referred to.the Finance'Committee (Controller's tentative budget- and tentative trz levy) end also commend the administration at this time. Councilman Chambers seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Chambers moved that the Council proceed with the consideration. of Ordin ;nce 43220. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Motion carried.- ORDINANCE NO. 3?20 An Ordi once fixir.Q the snlarie and providing for paid vacations of certain city officials end employes of the municipal city of South Bend, Indiana, and repealing a11_ ordirences end parts of ordir_a_aces in conflict therewith. The ordinance was given its third re --ding by title. Councilman Hull moved for roll cell. The following spoke on behalf of the Policemen, Firemen and electrical emnlcyes incre2se: Ill r. Butler. Rev. Cole Mr. Trost Mr. Murray Mr. Jeffers �ouncilmnn Hull moved for voll call on third res;ding. Councilman Kerner seconded the motion. Councilmen Hull moved for roll-cell on Councilman James' motion (seid ordinance be referred to the Finance Committee). Council.mPn'Bierwngen seconded the motion. Motion carried. The vote eras as follows: Bierwegen, James, and Fish - 3 eyes. Hull, Kerner, Chambers, Rasmussen end Palicki - 5 ayes. Motion lost. Councilmen Hull moved for roll call on Ordinance. Councilmen Chpmbers seconded the motion. Motion carried. The vote was es follows: Hull, Kerner, Chambers, Rn- smussen and Pelicki - 5 ayes.' Bierwngeh, James and Fish 3 nays. Ordinnnoeadopted. Councilman Chambers moved that Ordinence #3216 be pulled out of the Finance Committee and con - sidered for' third reading, excluding the police, fire and electrical employes. And that #3216 be emended by #3220. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3216 An Ordinance fixing the salaries for the various offi.cia.ls of the Civil City of South Bend, IndinnM, for the period commencing January 1, 193 , to December 31, 193F, both inclusive. The ordinance was given its third reading by title, end was pleced upon its pesspge and passed by the following vote:- Hull, Kerner, Chambers, Rasmussen and Palicki - 5 eyes. Bierwager. James and Fish - 3 n ^ye. Ordinance adopted. There being no further business, Councilrr.sn Hull moved to adjourn. Councilman Chambers seconded_ ,the motion. "notion carried.
