MINUTES
JUNE 23rd, 1937
Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend,.Indiann, met in the
Special Session in the Council Chembers of the City Hall, Wednesday evening. June 23rd, 1937,
at the hour of 7:40 P. M. All members were present. President Fish presiddd.

CALI, FOR SPECIAL MEETING

COMMION COUNCIL
You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority by law vested in me as
Mayor of the City of South Bend, Of the State of Indiana., a special meeting of the Common
Council of said City- is hereby called to be held at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P. M. or as soon
thereafter es convenient, on Wednesday evening, June 23rd, 1937, in the Council Chambers in
said City, for the purpose of granting permission to hold carnival in -accordance to the follow-
ing resolution:
"The resolution approving the action of the Police Department and the
City Controller in waiving €. license fee for the carnival operating on
Prairie Avenue under the auspices of the American Legion Post 450."

R E S O L U T I O N
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE WAIVING OF A LTCENSE FEE
CARNIVAL OPERATING ON PRAIRIE AVENUE UNDER THE
AUSPICES OF Am- ERICAN LEGION POST NUMBER 50,
WHEREAS, the American Legion Post Number 50 hae requested that the City
a carnival to eppepr in the City of South Bend on Prairie,4venue under
payment of a license fee as provided by Ordinance #2751 of this council

WHEREAS, it is the seneF of this body end. the feeling of the members hereof that in view of
the fact thet said carnival is promoted under the suspices of the American Legion. Post Number
50, which is an organization not for profit, but en orgPnizati.cn to promote the betterment of
the members End the well being of society in general erd has performed certain noteworthy pub-
lic service in the immediate rAst, en.d since it is the sense and felling of this body that se.id
patriotic organization in receiving P. shAre =of the profits of said enterprise they should not
be subject to,the imposition of a license fee.
It is the sense of this council end this council does resolve that the City Controller be
directed to we,ive the license fee for said carnival and. to permit the said carnival to show in
line with the exceptions set forth in Section 4 of Ordinance #1751, adopted by this council on

Councilmen Hull moved that said resolution be adopted. Councilmen Goetz seconded the motion.
Motion carried.

sand Palicki — 8 ayes. Chambers — Nay. Resolution adopted.

There being no further business, Councilman James moved to adjourn. Councilmen Rasmussen
seconded the motion. Motion carried. Council. adjourned et 8:15 P. M.
