HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-13-36 Council Meeting MinutesREGULAR MEETING MINUILES - JULY 13th, 1936 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Regular Session in -the Council Chembere of the City Hall, Monday evening, July 13th, 1936, at the hour of 7 :35 P. M. All members were present. President Fish presided. Councilman Hull moved that the reading of the minutes for the last meeting be dispensed with. Councilman Ras- mussen seconded the motion. Motion carried.. CERTIFICATION OF POSTING NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS In the matter determining additibnal appropriations for extra funds for- .temporary sh aries and gasolene for Electrical Department; for office supplies for Building Department; for telephone, telegraph, electric current, repair of equipment for Board of Works; for postage, laundry, clean ing, medical and surgical services for Police Department; for refunds, awards; and: - indemnities under Controller's Office; for medical and surgical account -for Street Department; for office -supplies for office of Weights and Measures; for telephone, telegraph, gasolene, office supplies end heat for Board of Health; for up -keep of grounds, coal, miscellaneous supplies, and golf cou equipment; also transferring of monies from one account to another account ell under the Park Board. To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred An Ordinance fixing the salaries of cer- tain City Officials and Employees of the Municipal City of South Bend and repealing all Ordinanc end parts of Ordinances to conflict therewith. Respectfully report that they have examined-the matter and that in their opinion should be re- ported - favorable as amended. Geo. W Goetz;- Chairman. COMMUNICATIONS;, - A- letter and a=ffirmation from the State Board of Tax Commissioners -were read- in regard to Ordinance #3159 and Ordinance #3160 for additional appropriations in-the sum of $950.00. Councilman 01m mbers moved that they be placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. A letter from-Mr. - Moomew -was read in regard to the petition of Paul's Bread „Co, et al for ch:angre of zoning cla=ssification of lots 1, 2 and 3 Elies Rupelle Addition_ saying it was-.consid- eyed by the-City-Plan Commission at their regular meets.np-- July 2nd and this cha=nge is -r_ot- redom- mended. Councilmen Goetz moved thet- said lbtter.be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Ra.s- -asen seconded the motion. Motion carried. A letter from J. H. Whitmarsh, president of the Civic Planning Association was read, saying, "I respectfully request for the Association that Mr. Murray be accorde�( respectful heaving on bE half of the member -tax payers of our Association.” Councilman Goetz-moved that the- president of the 'Gounbtl.appoint a committee of three- including - Councilman 'Chambers to go ;-to the office of the South Bend. ivic Planning Association to look over their records and report back to the Council. Councilman Chambers seconded the motion. Motion carried. President Fish, appointed Councilmen Chambers, James and Kerner. Motion carries Councilmen Chambers - moved - that the department- heeds-,be instructed to. bring all unpaid bills in the office of the controller'-prior to June 30th, 1936 and the - Controller in turn make a report to the Council. Councilman James seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE STREET COMMISSIONER: A report- was -read consisting of a list of streets that were graded and resurfaced by the W.P.A. since the first of- August,;1935' also that-the W.P.A. constructed.& new office building in the Street- Department- yard, cleaned the-river bank _from Sample Street to Logen Street on the East side of. the river -and are at the present t -tme working on the -West -side of the river bank. And that they also -- constructed a stone wail from t- nSalle Ave. to Hydraulic Ave. along the race, end along the river at LeSalle lark Councilman Hull-moved said- report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Bierwagen seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE 170. 3165 as amended An Ordinance fixing the, selaries of certein- -City Officials and d- employees of the Municipal City of South Bend and repealing all ordinances and parts -of Ordinances in conflict therewith. .Councilor ?n Chambers moved to chanve Clerk of Building Department to Assistant Building Oommissioner' and also the salary from $1200.00 to $1500.00.
