All members were present. President Fish presided. Councilman Hull moved that the reading of the minutes for the last meeting be dispensed with. Councilman Goetz second- ed the motion. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE. ,To the Common Council of the City of .South Bend; Your Commit -tee of the whole to whom was referred an Ordnance appropriating the sum of One Hnridred Dollars from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, to the Board of Public TWorks. Respectfully report that they heve examined the matter and that in their opinion should be reported favorable. Geo. W. Goetz, Chairmen. The report was accepted. by the Council and ordered to be placed on file. Motion cerried._ , REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom wes referred an Ordinance fixing the selaries of certain City Officials and-employees of the municipal City of South Bend, Indiana, and repealing all ordinances and parts of Ordi:nences in conflict therewith. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and. thst in their opinion should be reported favorable. Geo. W. Goetz, Chair man. The report was accepted by the Co�jncil and ordered to be placed on file. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE STREET COMMISSIONER: A report of the W. P. A. activities end expense for the month of March, 1936 was read. Councilman Hull moved it be eccepted and placed on file. Councilmen Kerner seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE STREET COMMISSIONER: A' report of the work done by the Street and. Sever Departments was read for the months of April and May, 1936 Councilman Hull moved they be accepted end placed on file. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motic Motion carried. ORDINANCE N0. 1 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of One Hundred Dollars from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, toithe Board of Public storks. jhe Ordinance was given its third reading by title and was placed upon its passage and passed by the following vot4: Hull, Goetz, Bierwagen, James, Kerner, Fish, Chambers, Rasmussen and Palicki. Ayes 9 Nays 0. Ordinance Adopted. ORDINANCE N0. 13 64 An Ordinance fixing the salaries of certein city officials and employees of the municipal city of South Bend, Indiana, and repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict there *ith. ORDINANCE NO. 3166 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $100.00 from the General Fund of the City of Soiith Bep.d to account numbered S -2 under the Electrical Department for temporary salaries for the balance of the year 1936: also the sum of $75.00 from the Generel Fund of the City of South Bend to account numbered S -7 for Gasolene for said. Department for the balance of the year 1936. 4n. ORDTYA,.CE NO. 316 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of #300.00 from the General Fund of the ,City of South Bend to account #H -9 under the Board of Works for Telephone And Telegraph: also appropriating_ the sum of $400.00 from the Genera -1 Fund of the City of South Bend to nacount H -11 under the Bo_erd of Works for Electric Current for the balance of the year 1936; €iso nppropriating the sum of $100.00 from the General Fund of the City of South Bend to account #H -1.5 under.the Board of Works for the repair of equipment for the balance of the year 1936. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title. Councilman Chambers moved that the 2nd reading -be dispensed with, each councilman hevtng a copy, and referred it to the Committee of the Whole also that a Public Hearing be held July 6th, 1936. ORDINANCE N0. 3170 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $1327.55 from the General Fund of the City of So:)th Bend to the rccount for refunds, awards, and indemnities under the Controller's Office, the same being numbered B -11 -A. ORDILANCE NO 3172 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $25.00 from the General Fund. of the City of South Bend to the Office Supplies account under the Weights and Measures Department vrhich is account numbered R - 4. Councilman Chambers moved -that the 2nd rending be dispensed with, each councilman having a copy, end referred it to the Committee of the Whole also that a Public Hewing be held July 6th, 1936. ORDINANCE NO. , 3173 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $405.00 from the General Fund of the City of South Bend into various accounts under the Board of Public Health for the remainder of the year 1936. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title. Councilman Hull moved that the 2nd reading be dispensed with, each councilmen having a copy, and referred: it to the Committee of the Whole also that a. Public Hearing be held July 6th, 1936. ORDINANCE NO. 3174 An Ordinance appropriating the sum of $25.00 from the General Fund of the City of South Be to the account for Postage under the Police Department, which is account numbered P - 4. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title. Councilman Hull moved that the 2nd re =ding be dispensed with, each councilman having a copy, end referred it to the Committee of t Whole also that a. Public Heerng be held July 6th, 1936. Councilman Goetz seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3175. An Ordinance appropriating certain sums from the General Fund or operating balance in the Department of Public Parks in the City of South Bend, Indiana, td certain_ subdivisions in said department and transferring certain sums from subd,Jsions in said department to other subdivisions in the same department, Pll as hereinafter set out. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on motion of Councilman Hull was referred to the Committee of the 6hole end also that a public hearing be held July 6th, 1936. Councilman Goetz seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman James moved that the department heeds be present July 6th, to P-ive reason for appro- priations. RESOLUTIONS: BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: That it shall be the sense of this Honorable Body that the Indiana State Legislature, con- vening in January, 1937 be memoralized and requested to introduce in siarllegislature an act to anreal the net combining the Boards of Public Works and Safety as affecting second class cities in sn.id State end to reinact the statute creating separate Boards of Works and Safety composed of three members each b- partisan in membership and with ell of-the other rights and privileges eccruing to said Board as pursuant to the provisions of the statute. (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 397) Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be mailed to each city of the Second Class and a request be made for their cooperation in securing the desired orange in the Board of Works and Board of Safety. Resolution adopted. RESOLUTION: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMOF COUNCIL of the City of South Bend; that WHEREAS, 0. A. CLARK was an outstanding citizen of the city of South Bend and known for tie acts of charity and philanthropy; and WHEREAS, his death red a -o•reat loss to the entire citizenry of South Bend and the adjoin- ing community; end WH?°REAS, a group of citizens have formed the 0. A. Clark Memorial Committee, which: committee is making arrangements for a memorial dinner to be held on the night of June 30th, 1936, and ir, completing plans to build a permanent memorial to 0. A. Clark in the form of a playground for chiidred et Healthrin Hospital, the same to be built with funds donated b-,v the friends of Mr. Clark; BE IR RESOLVED That the Common Council of the city of South Bend officiPlly dndorses the purpose end,acts of the 0.
