Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening I November 26th, 1934. at the hour of 8 :50 o'clock P. M. All Members present except Councilman Altfeld. President Nelson presided. The Minutes of the two previous meetings were reads and on Motion of Councilma Hull were accepted as 8 read. Motion carried. COMMUNICATION. 5 North LaFayette South Bend, Indiana October 30, 19342 Mrs Gladys Monroe, City Clerk City Hall South-Bend, Indiana Dear Mrs. Monroe: I have your letter of October 29 in which you enclosed a copy of the resolu passed by the Common Council July 27, 1931. For your information, men are suppoxs =ed to work at the prevailing rate given in a community, an as established by a focal wage committee. The local wage committee in South Bend established_a rate of 40 0 per hour for the FERA program, started April.l,. Our minimum rate for any county i 3,00 per hour -and iii order to obtain an increase in the rate .a I believe documentary evidence sh be presented to the wage committee of St. Joseph County to substantiate an increase from 40* to I am turning the copy of the resolution over to this wage committee for their guidance at their next meeting. -Thanking you for calling this resolution to our attention, -I am Very truly your Charles W. Thank you for the information contained in your letter to Mr. Hopkins, South Bend,- Indiana: dated October 22 29.- I am_.not quite clear, however, as to the relation of your-letter and your resolutions to relief work. The rate of relief wagesits to be determined by local wage rate committees. The personnel of these committees is: a reapresentative of labor, a representative of the relief admin.istratilni, and a representative of business. This committee finds out what t e prevailing rate of wages is for any trade classificaion in the community, and its-findings, if unanimous, are the rates to.be paid. Respectfully report that they haveexamined the matter and that in their optinion the said Ordinance should be reported : Favorable. Grover D.' An Ordinance appropriating the sum of One Thousand and Twenty ($1,020.00) Dollars from the General Fund of -the City of South Bend, Indiana, To The Department of Public Works, The Sewer Repair Departrtett, the Engineering Department and The Building Department of said City. The Ordinance was given its first.reading by title, its second reading in full and on Motion of Councilman Rokop The Ordinance was referred to the Committee of the Whole,also that a Public Hearing-be held December 10th,_ 1934 at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. An Ordinance appropriating the sum of Twenty -five Dollars ($25.00) from General Fund to Office Supplies - Weights and Measures Department (Account R -4) to Public Safety. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second.reading in full"& and on Motion of Councilman Hull was referred to the Committee of the Whole, also that a Public Hearing be- held,December 10th, 1934 at 7:30 o'clock P. M. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. An Ordinance appropriating certain Funds from the Generaml Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, to the Department of Public Health and The City Clerk's Department. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on Motion of Councilman Hull was referred to the Committee of the Whole, also that a Public; Hearing beheld .December klOth, _1934 at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3057. - An Ordinance. Ratifying -and •approving -a, contract - entered -into in Triplicate by and .,between the Municipal Olty..of -South Bend, by and through -its- Board of- Public Works, First Party, and James H. Pierce Second Par -ty. The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on Motion of Councilman Oakley the Rules were suspended by the following vote: Nelson, Whiteman, Rokop, Goetz, Hull, Jaworski, Brennan, Oakley, Fiwek, Cripe and Gustin, Ayes 11, Nays 0. Rules were suspended and Ordinance goes to third reading.' The Ordinance was given its third reading -by title, and-was places upon its passage and passed by the following vote: Nelson voting Nay. Whiteman, Rokop, Goetz, Hull, Jaworski, Brennan,.Oakley, Fiwek, Cripe and Gustin, A voting Aye, Ayes 10, Nays 1. Ordinance adopted. RESOLUTION. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN GEO. F. HULL. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of South Bend, State of Indiana, that the City Contyoller of said City is hereby authoriz-ed-.and directed to pay on the 20th day of December, 1934, all monthly- S-aleries,of * Officials and Employees of said City, becoming due for the Month of December, 1934- On Motion of Councilman Goetz the.
