Be it Remembered that the Common Council of t#e City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening March 12th, -1934 at the hour of 9z 8 - :00 o'clock P. M. All Members present except Councilman Nelson. Vice - President Grzeskowiak presided. The Minutes-of the previous meeting wege read and on Motion of Councilman Hull were accepted as read. Motion carried. To the Common Council of the,City of South Bend :_ Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred An Ordinance appropriating the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($350.00) from the General Fund of the City of South Bend to Sub - Department H -17 for appraisers in the Department of Public Works. An Ordinance Transferring Funds from One Sub- Dimvision to another Subdivision in the Department of Health Office. The Ordinance was given its first reading the second reading in Motion of Councilman Jaworski was referred to _ RESOLUTION. South Bend Pharmacy Club 804 West Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana,-March S, 1934- WHEREAS Every year there are i4numerable accidents atributable to the careless and imprudent discharging of fire works resulting in deaths and permanent disabilities to the victims mostly children and irresposinsible youths, and WHEREAS The handling and discharging of fire works increase our fire hazards and WHEREAS It is not consistent to further safety and accident preventive measures -and pass" -otter ti this menace to life and property, now therefore be it_ RESOLVED That the South Bend Pharmacy Club petition the honorable City Council to adopt such City Ordinances that will abate this threat to the lives of the children of our City, and be it further RESOLVED That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Secretaries of other Professional, Civic and Trade groups and to the Newspapers of the City. I move that the Board of Public Works be notified that it is the wish of the Members of the Common Council that the faded Street signs, in the City be put in proper sh ( See page 235 ) ape ( Concluded ) r '�S x by having the lettering on signs repainted. It is recommended the work be done by C.N.A. workers. Councilman Jno. C. Hiss. • On Motion of Councilman :t Jaworeki the Motion WELB mmxsdxand seconded and was carried. 2xaxaxxazxa ....- Mr. Harry Lewis-of the Labor -Ursion 'brought 'to -the -attention -of -the Council concerning the demotion of Captain Edward V: Morris, oaf the -:Routh ;Bend,�i?olice-- lForce. There was a general discussion. It was suggested that if possible there be three captains established, one for each shift, also suggested something in regard to Civil Service, so that officers could not be'dem &ted without cause. Councilman Hiss made a Motion that the matter rest in the Council for a week. Motion carried. On Motion of Councilman Altfeld the Council adjourned at 8 :40 of,clock P.' M. Motion carried.
