MINUTES.
Be it Remembered that the Common Council met in the Regular Session in the Council
Chambers in the City Hall, Monday evening May 11th, 1931 at the hour of $:v15 o'clock P: M:
All Members present except Councilman Whiteman: President Nelson presided The Minutes of
the previous meeting were read and on Motion of Councilman Hull were referred to the Committee
on the Inspection and Ouperviaxsion of Minutes&' Motion carried.

City Council of South Bend., South Bend, Indiana
Gentlemen: This is to call attention -to the Railway Crossing sign, located at the north —east.
corner of East LaSalle and Niles Avenue, erected by the .Michigan Central Railway:_ The iron
post supporting this sign is placed about two feet outside the curbi'where it is dangerous to
traffic and also unsightly and - unnecessary.' Trusting that this will be called to the attention

Wei the uOdersigned, owners of the fee simple title to Lots Numbered ThirtyFour (34),
Thirty Five (3 and Thirty Six (36) in Foster-Standfield Addition to the City of South Bend,
and Lot Numbered Nine (9) in Lochner & Hibberd s Sub- Division -to said City of -South Bend.
respectfully request that your Honorable Board.recommend the drafting of an ordinance amending
the zoning ordinance of said City, whereby said lots, and all of them, be changed from A-
Residential to C- Commercial Zone. The reasons for said change, arel that these lots are
located at tie corner of Niles Avenue and Howard Street, in said City, and are better fitted,
more adaptable and will be of greater service t6 the community as businesa rather than for

Use or Occupancy of Buildings or their Parts and Structures of Every Nature in the City of Sout
Bend,., Indiana;, Providing for, Condemnation and Stoppage of the use thereof, and Wrecking of the
same: Creating the Offices of Building Commissioner, Assistant Building Commissioner and City
Electrician, and Providing for the Office of the Building - Department. Repealing all former
Ordinances conflicting therewith, adopted.by the Common Council of the City -of South Bend, Marc

proposed to the.Building Code.in- which -we- are- vitally,interested,.wish, *,at this time to call
your: - attention to the fact that Electrical Appliances as sold.by Druggists are factory-,tested aid
guaranteed b the maker to be perfect:' No further .inspectionbeing_necessary We furthermore
feel that a 4#100 fee imposed-on dealers for obtaining a permit is exorbitant and will not serve
to correct any evils that may exist in the handling of.'ingf erior Electrical Appliances and
to
recommend that the fee be eliminated.';This does not mean or omply that we are ofposed
applying for permits to deal in Electrical Appliances: We respectfully ask that you carefully co
