Be it Remembered that the Common Council met in: the Regular Session in the Council Chambers in the.City Hall, Monday evening, April 27th, 1931 at the hour of 7 :45,ololock P M:` All Members present except Councilman Hiss. President Nelson presided. The Minutes of the previous meeating were read,and on Motion of Councilman Hull were referred to the Committee on the Inspection and Supervision of M&MItes.'Motion carried*- COMMUNICATIONS The University of Notre Dame acknowledges with thanks your expression or•syrapathy and condolence upon the death--of Mr: Rockne :' The family. of. Knute K:' Rockne deeply appreciate and gratefully acknowledge your comforting expression of sympathy.' Mrs: Archibald McClure Elizabeth and Archibald Junior wish to express their deep gratitude for the love , sympathy and strength which you have shared with them. On Motion of Councilman Hull the Communications were accepted and ordered to be placed on file Motion carried: Communication* The First Presbyterian Church, Washington Avenue and LaFayette Boulevard. South Bend., Indiana.' April 17, 1931:' Dear Friends: The Session of our church has asked me to write y to you expressing our appreciation of your resolutions of sympathy in the death of our minister and mutual freidznd, Rev.' Archixbald MoOlure :' Your word of appreciation for his work and influence in the community is a great comfort to us and it is also helpful to know that we share this great sorrow together. To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully ,V report t4at they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council-and found them correct:' They therefore recommend that the same be approved.' To the Common Council of the City of South.Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred An ordinance amending Section 4 and Seoticas 814 a to 822, inclusi =ve, of Ordinance No.' 2243, being an ordinance regulating all matters concerning or-pertaining to the.Construction, Alteration, Repairs or Additions to Remodeling, Use or Occupancy of Buildings or their Parts Structures of every Nature in the City of South Be Indiana; Providing for Condemnation and - .Stoppage of.the use thereof, and Wrecking of the same.' Creating the Offices of Building Commissioner, Assistant Building Commissioner and City Electrician, and Providing for the Office of the Building Department.' Repealing all former Ordinances conflicting therewith, adopted by the Common Council of the City of South,Bend, March 27, 1922-and approved by the Mayor March :�x 30, 1922 and published April 6th, of the same year, commonly know# as the Building Code of tha City of South Bend, Indiana; and enacting and adding to said Ordinance, Sections 823 and 8240 espectfully report that they have examined the matter, and that in their opinion the said Ordinance should be reported favorable as amended: John C:" Hiss, Chairman. ORDINANCE NO 2926:' An Ordinance amending Ordinance No 2331, commonly known as the Zonffing Ordinanoe • The Ordinance was given its third reading by title, and was placed upon its passage and passed by the following vote: Nelson, Whiteman., Rokop, Goetz, Hull, Jaworski, Altfeld, Oakley, Grzeskowiak,,Cripe and Gusti% Ayes ll,. Nays 0' Ordinance adopted:' _ ORDINANCE No. An Ordinance appropriating the sum of Forty Two Hundred Dollars ($40200:100) from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indianan, to the Department of.Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana: - The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on Motion of Councilman Hull was referred to the Committee of the Whole, also that a Pub3.e Hearin be held May llth, 1931 at 7:.30 oa clock P.' M.' Motion carrffied RESOLUTIOl. WHEREAS, The - American L6gcbon Post No: 50 of South Bend, Indiana, proposes to hold a boat • race on the St Joseph River on Sunday afternoon, June 7th or 14th2 1931, and WHEREAS the purpose of said boat race is to accumulate funds to promote The American Legion Post X No: 50 activities in the elimination of unsanitary condition of the St: Joseph Raver; and WHEREAS, in order to effectually xxii realize any funds by reason of said boat race it is necessary to charge asmall admission fee to the place and / or places of vantage along the proposed route of said boat race; and ( See page 83 ) ( Concluded WHEREAS, in order to charge an admission fee to the place and / or places of vantage along the proposed route of said boat race it is necessary to control the ingress to said place and W or places; and tAl �'J WHEREAS, in order to control the ingress to said place and / or places of vantage it is necessary to temporarily block off the ends of certain streets and / or avenues in the City of South Bend; therefore BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that by and with the consent of the Board of Public Safety and the Board of Park Commissioners -.of said City, The American Legion Post No" 50 iss hereby .authorized and permitted to block off for a temporary period on Sunday, June 7th or 14th, 1931, the southnends of South St. Louis Boulevard, South St:.Peter Street, South Notre Dame Avenue, South St: Francis Street, the South Eddy Street entrance to LaSalle Park, and the intersections of Arch Avenue and East Monroe Streets with Edgewater Drive:. On Motion of Councilman Altfeld,'the Resolution was adopted. Motion carried.' On Motion of Councilman Altfeld, the Council adjourned at 5:05 otclock P:' M: Motion carried.'
