Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Special Session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Wednesday evening April 1st M931, at the hour of 7 :15 o'clock P: M.' , All Members present . President Nelson presided. STATE OF INDIANA ST. JOSEPH COUNTY SS. CITY OF SOUTH BEND CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL.-- To the Members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: You are hereby notified-that under and by virtue of the authority by law vested in me as Mayor of the City of South Bend, ofthe• State of Indiana, a special meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet at the hour of 7 :15 o'clock Pe" M*, on Wednesday, April lst, 1931, for the purpose of considering action on.a resolution upon the death of Knute K. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN JOHN C. NELSON. ( See page 76) RESOLUTION WHEREAS, God in His Infinite wisdom has terminated the earthly career of Xnute K.` Rockne, and WHEREAS, by his death on March 34 1931, the City of South Bend has lost a most noted and public spirited - citizen ever lending to its people his kind co— operation in_ all' their undertakings, and _ WHEREAS, the University of Notre Dame, in his death, has lost a distin4uished and devoted Alumnus and Faculty member whose character and achievements were`known and loved throughout America and the Worl& as -an inspiration to its Youth, THEREFORE, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, that the offices. of-the City Hall be closed for a half day at the time of the funeral of the deceased and that the Flags of the City be at half mast during an appropriate-time of mouring and that the Honorable Mayor_of the City of South Bend be authorized to issue a proclamation to this effect:' Be it further resolved that this Council on behalf of', the City of South Bend-extend its deepest sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Knute K.' Rockne, and to the Faculty and students of the University of Notre Dame on account of the bereavement which all the ,people of this City bear with therm Be it further resolved that .a page in the proper records of the City be set aside and this resolution be copie& therein, and that a copy of this resolution duly certified, by the Clerk, be sent to the bereaved family of the deceased and to the President of the University of Notre Dame.' R:' Hinkle who was present at the Council meeting spoke with sorrow of the tragic death of a the much loved citizen "Knuth K:' Rockne ", who loss was a severe blow to the citizens of South Bend and the nation. Walter Clements, City Attorney also expressed his grief at the death of Mr *' Rockne, who was a 31 f6rmer classmate of Mr:' Clements *" MOTION. ( orally) Councilman Cripe makes a Motion that the CouncilAppoint a Cor=Zttee to make arrangemeim, for the Council to attend the funeral of Knute K.' Rockne in a body. Motion carried. President Nelson appointed Councilman John C:' Hiss as a Committee to zrxxxga make the necessary arrangements *` On Motion of Councilman Goetz the Council adjourned at 7:30 o1clodW P.'
