" -19 Be it-Remembered that the Common Council met in the Regular Session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Monday evening March 24th, 1930. at the hour of 7:50 o'clock P. M, All members present except Councilman Altfeld. President Fegan presided. The Minutes-of the previous meeting were read and on Motion of Councilman Hull were referred to the Committee on the Inspection and Supervision of Minutes. Motion Carried. A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE LA SALLE MEMORIAL MOVEMENT WHEREAS-the authenticated history of the white race in the State of Indiana began some two undred and fifty years ago with the landing, on the bank of the Saint Joseph River - then known only as the River o f the M1 ami s -at a p oint within the p r es ent l units✓ of the City of South Bend , of that intr (:P id French Explorer, Rene RobertCavelier, Sieur• De La. Salle and his expedition ; - and$ WHEREAS, the Is sterling qualities-and character of the man LA SALLE have made him one of the outstanding figures in the history of the North American Continent; and WHEREAS the Lions Club of South Bend cooperating with all the Lions Club's of the State of Indiana, the Indiana State Historical Society, and the Northern Indiana Historical Society, and supported -by other civic organizations in the cities :of South Bend and Mishawaka are sponsoring a patriotic movement to commemorate LaSalle by the erection in South Bend, Indiana of a fitting memorial to him: BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Common;C'ouncil of the.City of South'Bend, in regular session assembled, on this> the 17th day of March-, 19309 1 A.
