AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $121,700.00 FROM LOCAL
ROAD AND STREET - SPECIAL DISTRIBUTION FUND TO
PROJECT R & S 7801, SIGNALIZATION IMPROVEMENTS AT
TEN INTERSECTIONS, WITHIN THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET
- SPECIAL DISTRIBUTION FUND.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In that certain unsafe conditions exist at ten (10) intersections with-
in the City of South Bend; and
In that certain improvements have been proposed to correct these unsafe
conditions; and
In that funds are now needed to pay the City's portion of the cost of
the engineering and construction of these improvements,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I: That the sum of $121,700.00 be appropriated from the 1978 Local
Road and Street - Special Distribution Fund to Project R & S 7801, as set forth
below:

RE: Signalization Improvements at Ten Plus Three Intersections
Dear Councilmen:

Two ordinances have been presented for your review requesting $21,700 and
$35,800 from the Local Roads and Street Fund for improvements proposed at
a total of thirteen (13) intersections.
Federal -Aid Urban Funds have been approved through MACOG, the Indiana State
Highway Commission, and the Federal Highway Department for two separate
signalization improvement projects. Those intersections listed under these
projects are as follows:
Miami and Ewing Avenue
Miami and Calvert
Miami and Indiana Avenue
William and LaSalle Avenue
William and Colfax Avenue
William and Washington Avenue
William and Jefferson Boulevard
Western Avenue and Summit
Lafayette Boulevard and Wayne Street
Lafayette Boulevard and Western Avenue
Donmoyer Avenue and Michigan Street
Bendix Drive and Westmoor
Taylor and Western Avenue
The Federal Highway Department will be funding 70 per cent of the costs of
these improvements ($294,000).

The Local Road nd Street Funds requested in these ordinances represent the
City's 30 per cent match to the signalization project, plus 100 per cent of
the cost of an engineering contract for the design of the improvement
$31,500).
In summary, we have:
Ten 10 Intersection Improvements
Federal -Aid Urban Funds $227,500
Local Road and Street Fund 97,500
Engineering (LRSA) 24,200
Three (3) Intersection Improvements
Federal -Aid Urban Funds $ 66,500
Local Road and Street Fund 28,500
Engineering (LRSA) 7,300
