AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $15,000.00 FROM LOCAL
ROAD AND STREET - SPECIAL DISTRIBUTION FUND TO PRO-
JECT R & S 53, SAMPLE STREET (CHAPIN TO OLIVE)
IMPROVEMENTS, WITHIN THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET -
SPECIAL DISTRIBUTION FUND.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In that the 1978 session of the Indiana General Assembly enacted Public
Law 58, Acts 1978, creating the Local Road and Street - Special Distribution Fund;
and
In that certain unsafe conditions exist along Sample Street between Chapin
Street and Olive street, necessitating the proposal of certain improvements; and
In that certain additional funds are required to pay the cost of these
improvements; and
In that funds are available from the Local Road and Street - Special Distri-
bution Fund for these purposes,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I: That the sum of $15,000.00 be appropriated from the 1978 Local
Road and Street - Special Distribution Fund to Project R & S 53, as set forth
below:

The attached appropriation requesting $15,000 represents the cost of that
engineering work which must be completed if this project is to receive
Federal Funding.
When the engineering contract for this project was initially let, it was
anticipated that Sample Street would be constructed using local funds to
the normal City standards. After the bulk of the engineering work was
completed, it was determined that this project might be eligible for
Federal -Aid Urban Funds.
The City has successfully pursued their application for these funds, and
approximately $650,000 has been made available for the 1979 construction
season. In order to utilize these funds, the plans and specifications
must be revised in order to meet the specific requirements of the Indiana
State Highway Commission. The estimated cost of these revisions is
$15,000.
