AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING,$49,000.00 FROM THE
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS
GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR POLICE COMPUTER SER-
VICES, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND THROUGH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Police Department
to insure this Department's ability to properly perform its functions dur-
ing the year 1978.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. That the sum of $49,000.00 is hereby appropriated
for the year 1978 from the Federal Assistance Grant Fund, commonly known
as the General Revenue Sharing Fund. This appropriation is to be admininstered
by the Police Department and will be distributed as set forth below:

SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by
the Mayor, and the fulfillment of all statutory requirements for emer-
gency appropriations.

There will be presented to you on July 24, 1978, an ordinance for first reading
appropriating $49,000.00 from Revenue Sharing to be used for computer services
for the Police Department.
If you will recall, this particular cost was eliminated from the annual budget
at budget time in 1977 with the intention of funding it through Revenue Sharing.
The submission of this ordinance is in response to that original budget deletion.
At our present rate of usage and cost of the police information system, it is
estimated that $49,000.00 will be required to fulfill our needs for the balance of
1978.
