HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-16-65 Council Committee of the Whole Meeting MinutesPUBLIC HEARING MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA The Meeting of the Committee of the Whole of the Common Council was held August 16, 1965, at 8 :00 P.M., in the Auditorium of the Public Library to give the citizens an opportunity to review the proposed 1966 budget and tax levy and to be heard thereon. The Meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Councilman Edwin Thomas Smith, Chairman, who presided. All members were present except Councilman Glass, who is critically ill. Chairman Smith introduced Mayor Lloyd M. Allen who gave a short talk. Each department was considered separately and speaking on the proposed budget were the following: Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the South Bend Civic Planning Association; Frank Stender, 721 So. Walnut St. and William Fritsch, 2421 Erskine Blvd., representing the Plumbing and Heating Council. Chairman Smith called for a five minute recess. Meeting recessed at 9:30 P.M. and reconvened at 9:45 P.M. Also heard was Mr. Anthony Kasak of 1609 Medora St. Chairman Smith expressed thanks to the Public Library staff, WSBT Radio Station, WSBT and WNDU TV, all department heads for their cooperation and to all interested citizens who attended the meeting. Chairman Smith announced that the Ways and Means Committee has been making a detailed study of the proposed budget and will have recommendations at the final official hearing on August 30th.
