Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers in the
City Hall, January 6,1964, at 7:30 P.M. Mayor Lloyd M. Allen called the meeting to order and stated this
meeting was held in conformance with Article II, Section 21 of Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of
South Bend, Indiana.-
The following Councilmen were present: Councilman =At -Large Mrs. Janet Allen, Albert Palmer and John V. Wise,
First District Councilman Richard G. Geib; Second District Councilman Walter M. Szymkowiak; Third District
Councilman Walter G Glass; Fourth District Councilman John L. hunter Jr.; Fifth District Councilman Edwin T.
Smith and Sixth District Councilman Chester Muszynski.
Mayor Allen announced that nominations were now open for President of the Common Council. Councilman Geib ''
r<ofh1Aated Councilman Runter for President of the Council. Councilman Glass seconded the nomination. Councilman
Wise moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Mayor
announced those in favor of unanimous vote for Councilman Hunter for President of the Council signify by saying
Aye.
Mayor Allen announced that nominations were now open for Vice- President of the Common Council. Councilman
Szymkowiak nominated Councilman Wise for Vice - President. Councilman Glass seconded the nomination. Councilman
Smith moved that the nominations be closed_.- Councilman Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Mayor
announced those in favor of unanimous vote for Councilman Wise for Vice- President of the Council signify by
saying Aye.
Nominations for election of Chairman of Committee of the Whole were in order. Councilman Wise nominated
Councilman Smith for Chairman of Committee of the Whole. Councilman Glass seconded the nomination. Councilman
Geib moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman
Smith was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Committee of the Whole.
There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Smith made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Geib
seconded the motion. Motion carried, and Council adjourned at 7:34 P.M.
