Chambers, City Hall, Monday, May 14, 1962, at 8 :51 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Ladewski. The
meeting was called to order by President Joseph T. Kroll, who presided.

Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would. respectfully report -that tyey have inspected
the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend that the same
be approved.

Gentlemen:
The attached petition of Virgil A. Place, et al, to annex to the City of South Bend, Indiana, 93.8 acres in
Section 27, T38N, R2E, being generally described as bounded on the north by the Indiana Toll Road, on the east by
Portage Road, on the west by Maple Road, and on the south by the present city limits extended west to Maple Road
and extended east to Portage Avenue was legally advertised under date of April 23, 1962 and given public hearing
on May 3, 1962. The following action was taken:
After due consideration the Commission found that the six determinants of annexation exist. It was therefore duly
moved, seconded, and unanimously carried that the petitioh.be recommended favorably to the Council.

the recently annexed property being generally described as a parcel of land 1,195 feet east and west by 556.45 feet
north and south at the southwest corner of Ireland and Miami Roads, excepting therefrom the following: To be zoned
"C" Commercial Use and "A" Height and Area District the property generally described as a parcel of land 450 feet
east and west by 350 feet north and south at the southwest corner of Ireland and Miami Roads; and also to be zoned
"B" Residential Use and '.'A" Height and Area District the property generally described as a parcel and land 286,3 feel
east and west by 230.45 feet north and south bounded on the north.by Ireland Road and lying 45o feet west of Miami
Rpad was legally advertised under date of April 23, 1962 and given public hearing on May 3, 1962. The following

After due consideration the Commission found that the proposed zoning would be the most logical for the area in-
volved and that substantial justice would be done by the granting of the petition. It was therefore duly moved,

COMMUNICATION FROM MAYOR BRUGGNER
To the Honorable Members of the Common Council
of the City of South Bend
Gentlemen:
May 11, 1962
I have today requested the Board of Public Works and Safety to do all things necessary to alleviate the damage
created by the recent windstorm emergency which occurred on April 30th.
As you know, the ravages and damages of this wind storm caused a large number of trees, located in the parkways, to

be destroyed and damaged. It is therefore necessary that we take immediate steps for the removal of all tree stumps'
from the parkways at the cost of the Civil City and the Park Department.
I have, therefore, requested that an Ordinance be introduced at your meeting on Monday, May 14, 1962, making certain
funds available for this emergency. I respectfully request that your Council fulfill this possibility by approving
the transfer.

1 absent (Councilman Ladewski). The Ordinance was then given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of
8 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent (Councilman Ladewski).
NOTE THIS ORDINANCE WAS NOT SIGNED BY THE MAYOR. SUPERCEDED BY ORDINANCE NO. PASSED ON
1962.
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has called from this life
MRS. MARTHA LADEWSKI, mother of EUGENE LADEWSKI, Councilman -
at- Large; and,
WHEREAS, her untimely death has brought much grief and sorrow to her
husband, Walter Ladewski; her sons, Eugene Ladewski, Reverenc
Roman Ladewski, C.S.C., and Stanley Ladewski; and her daughters,
Mrs. Genevieve Speer and Miss Loretta Ladewski.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That we, the Common Council of the City
of South Bend, Indiana, do hereby extend to our Councilman,
Eugene Ladewski, and the entire family of MRS. MARTHA LADEWSKI,
our sincere sympathy in this, their deepest hour of sorrow; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a page beset aside in the Council Records of
the City of South Bend and this Resolution be copied therein and
a copy, duly certified, be sent to Councilman Ladewski and his
family.

Councilman Tellson presented a petition signed by trash haulers reque6ting.extension of hours at the City Land Fill.
Councilman Tellson moved that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works and Safety for attention.
Councilman Krueper seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Councilman Lehman, Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, announced a meeting of the Committee of the Whole to
be May 26, 1962, at 9:00 A.M.
There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Coleman made a motion to adjourn. Councilman
Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Regular Meeting of the Common Council adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
