HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-25-59 Council Committee of the Whole Meeting MinutesJ COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MAY 25, 1959 A 107 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in the Council Chambers is the City Hall on Monday, May 25, 1959, at 8:33 P.M., with all members present. The meeting was called to order by Councilman Kroll, Chairman, who presided. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Clay Township) Public Hearing was held on the above Ordinance. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Speaking against the proposed Ordinance were the following: Joseph Puca, 17380 Wilshire 0. E. Carter, 17523 Hepler Street Edward M. Larson, 17037 E. Bulla Charles E. Evans, 19770 E. Kern Road, President of Hoosier Suburbia Speaking in favor of the Ordinance was Earl Kime, General Manager of Portage Realty Corporation. In Rebuttal, Charles E. Evans spoke. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motirn. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 3709, AS AMENDED, WHICH ORDINANCE IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (West Ewing Avenue) Public Hearing was held on the above Ordinance. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 (Land at East Jefferson and Eddy Street) Public Hearing was held on the above Ordinance. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Speaking against the proposed Ordinance were the following: Robert BonDurant, 1130 East Jefferson Boulevard Paul M. Butler, 1718 East Jefferson Boulevard Joseph T. Helling, Attorney, representing Mrs. Lillian Studebaker and daughters. Samuel Fiewell, Attorney, representing Harry Rosenstein, Dr. E. Liss and Mr. Bernard Berman Russell Kuehl, Attorney, representing Mrs. W. W. Austin, 1243 East Jefferson Boulevard Lenn J. Oare, Attorney, representing Mrs. E. M. Morris Speaking in favor of the proposed Ordinance were the following: Nicholas P. Cholis,- Attorney, representing Richard A. Muessel, Jr. Joseph A. Roper, Attorney, representing Mr. Muessel. In Rebuttal, Mr. Paul M. Butler was heard. In Counter - rebuttal, Mr. Joseph A. Roper, Attorney, was heard. Councilman Tellson made a motion that the proposed Ordinance go to the Council as unfavorable. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND CERTAIN TERRITORY CONTIGUOUS THERETO (Land adjacent to Broadmoor) Public hearing was held on the above Ordinance. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Speaking against the proposed Ordinance was Charles E. Evans 19770 East Kern Road, President of Hoosier Suburbia. Speaking in favor of the Proposed Ordinance was William E. Voor, Attorney, representing the Hilton Construction Com- pany. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the proposed Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Committee of the Whole Meeting adjourned at 11 :03 P.M.
