SPECIAL MEETING DECEMBER 1, 1958
This being the time set for the continued Special Meeting of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
the meeting was called to order by President Stanley C. Korpal, at 8 :13 P.M., Monday, December 1, 1958, with all
members present.
The Clerk read the following Call for Special Meeting:
STATE OF INDIANA
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY SS: CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING
CITY OF SOUTH BEND
To the President and Members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana:
Gentlemen:
You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law as Mayor of the City
of South Bend, in the State of Indiana, a Special Meeting of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to me(
in the Council Chamber, in the City Hall at the hour of 8 :00 P.M., on Wednesday, November 12, 1958, for the followinE
purpose:
TO ELECT A SUCCESSOR TO GEORGE W. CARR, COUNCILMAN -AT- LARGE, WHO TENDERED HIS RESIGNATION
EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 1958, THUS CREATING A VACANCY IN THE SOUTH BEND CITY COUNCIL.
The Chief of Police or any member of the Police Force is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this
notice on each and every member of the Common Council and make due return of such service of said Special Meeting.

Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Call for Special Meeting be accepted and placed on file. Councilman
Christman seconded the motion. Motion carried.
President Korpal announciled that the nominations for the office of Councilman -at -Large are now open.
Councilman Christman moved to place in nomination the name of Herman F. Waechter, 216 North Sunnyside, South Bend,
Indiana.
Councilman Erler moved that the nominations be closed. There was no second to the motion.
Councilman Tellson moved to place in nomination Donald F. Erhardt, 806 Thirty- Second Street, South Bend, Indiana.
Councilman Kroll moved that the nominations be closed., Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Upon Roll Call, the following results were announced:
Councilman Korpal Mr. Erhardt
Councilman Tellson Mr. Erhardt
Councilman Christman Mr. Waechter
Councilman Kroll Mr. Erhardt
Councilman Glass Mr. Waechter
Councilman Hahn Mr. Erhardt. Mr. Hahn stated that he knew he would be criticized for voting as
he did, but in the interests of good government, he would cast his vote for Mr. Erhardt.
Councilman Erler Mr. Erhardt.

The clerk then announced that there were 6 votes cast for Mr. Erhardt and 2 votes cast for Mr. Waechter and
Councilman Erler realizing he had made an error, asked permission to change his vote to Mr. Waechter. The Clerk
then read the results of the Roll Call Vote with 5 votes for Mr Erhardt and 3 votes for Mr. Waechter. Mr. Erhardt
was then declared the duly elected Councilman -at -Large to fill the unexpired term of Councilman -at -Large George W.
Carr, who resigned.

There being no further 'business before the Council, Councilman Babu made u motion to adjourn. CoouolImau Muouyook
seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Special Meeting of the Common Council adjourned at 8:17 P.M.
