HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-24-58 Council Meeting Minutes------------------------------- - - - - -- -- REGULAR MEETING Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Chambers, Monday, February 24, 1958, at 8:30 P.M., with all members was called to order by President Stanley C. Korpal, who presided. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Councilmen Korpal, Tellson, Christman, ABSENT: Councilman Carr,. and Councilman Glass. ----------------------------------------------- FEBRUARY 24, 1958 Indiana, met in Regular Sessiopncpl,+kg. Council present except Councilman Carr. The meeting Kroll, 5144, Hahn, Erler and Muszynski. MINUTES: Report of the Committee on Minutes: To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend that the same be approved. Stanley C. Korpal Committee Julius B. Christman, Jr. South Bend, Ind., February 24, 1958 Minutes of meeting of February 10, 1958. Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION: Petition of Riggs to rezone land located at 1017 East Dubail Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. Councilman Kroll made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Planning Commission. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. REGULAR MEETING PETITION: FEBRUARY 24, 1958 Petition of Frank Wisniewski, et al, to rezone Lots 21, 22 and 23 Janowski's Sub of Lot 9 K. & M. addition. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Planning Commission. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITIONS: A petition was filed containing 252 signatures of residents of Camden and Dundee Streets concerning truck traffic on their streets. Apetition was filed containing 91 signatures of residents of Kaley Street concerning truck traffic on their street. A petition was filed containing 192 signatures of residents of Meade Street concerning truck traffic on their street. A petition was filed containing 150 signatures of residents of Bendix Drive concerning truck traffic on their street. Councilman Christman made a motion that the petitions be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. CONTROLLER'S REPORT OF THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 1958: Balance on Hand January 1, 1958 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- $2,906,185.36. Receipts during Month ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ $ 838,895.67 Disbursements during Month ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- $ 602,399.62 Balance on hand February 1, 1958:: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- $3,142,681.41 Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Albert Street - -- Petition of Blenke Brothers), Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion IT SHOULD BE REPORTED FAVORABLE. /s/ W. A. Hahn, Chairman Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 4219 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Albert Street-- Blenke Bros. Petition). The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by g roll call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 2 absent (Councilmen Glass and Carr). ORDINANCE 4220 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND CITY WATER WORKS AND LAYNE NORTHERN COMPANY, INCORPORATED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ONE DEEP GRAVEL PACKED WELL TO BE LOCATED AT THE NORTH STATION FOR THE SUM OF $23,630.00 The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Hahn made a motion for sus - pension of Rules. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 2 hbsent (Councilmen Carr and Glass). The Ordinance was then given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7ayes, 0 nays, 2 absent (Councilmen Carr and Glass). OLD BUSINESS Councilman Tellson asked the City Attorney if he had prepared an Ordinance relating to the sale of artificially dyed chickens and ducks for childrens' pets. Mr. Smith stated that he was working on the Ordinance and would have one prepared for presentation at the next Council meeting. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Kroll second - ed the motion.
