HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-27-58 Council Committee of the Whole Meeting MinutesBe it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in the Council Chambers, Monday, January 27, 1958, at 8 :21 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Erler. The meeting was called to order by Councilman Carr, Chairman, who presided. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING, RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING A CERTAIN CONTRACT AND AGREEMENT MADE AND ENTERED INTO BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ACTING BY AND THROUGH ITS BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, AND NORTHERN INDIANA TRANSIT, INC., ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, WHICH SAID CONTRACT RELATES TO THE RATES CHARGED FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION SERVICE UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS IN SAID CITY. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on this,Ordinance. Mr. Hesiben, 113 Lake Street, remonstrated and asked for better service. Nicholas Cholis, Attorney for the Bus Company, spoke in favor of the Ordinance. Councilman Glass made a motion that this Ordinance be tabled for further study. There was no second to the motion. Motion lost. Councilman Hahn made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL FUND $6,844.00 TO CITY CEMETERY ACCOUNT N -11, SALARY OF SEXTON $600.00; TO ACCOUNT N -12 REGULAR AND TEMPORARY LABOR $6,144.00; AND TO ACCOUNT N -331 GASOLINE $100.00, ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR 1958, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on this Ordinance. Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the South Bend Civic Planning Association opposed the Ordinance. Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Korpal made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Committee of the Whole meeting adjourned at 8:36 P.M.
