HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-58 Council Organizational Meeting MinutesORGANIZATION MEETING JANUARY 6, 1958 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Monday, January 6, 1958, at 7:30 P.M.: Mayor Edward F. Voorde called 'the meeting to order and expressed his sincere appreciation for the splendid cooperation received from the Council during the past year. He asked the Council for their continued support during 1958. Mayor Voorde stated that this meeting was held in conformance with Article II, Section 21 of Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana. The .following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -At -Large George W. Carr, Stanley C. Korpal and Albert Tellson; First District Councilman Julius B. Christman, Jr; Second District Councilman Joseph T. Kroll; Fourth District Councilman William A. Hahn; Sixth District Councilman Chester Muszynski. Third Districk Councilman Walter Glass and Fifth District Councilman Walter C. Erler were absent. Mayor Voorde announced that nominations for the President of the Common Council were in order. Councilman Carr nominated Councilman Stanley C. Korpal for President. Councilman Muszynski seconded the nomination. Councilman Hahn moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. Upon roll call Councilman Korpal received 7 votes, 2 Councilmen were absent. Upon the vote being announced, Councilman Korpal was` declared the duly elected President for the year 1958, and presented the gavel by Mayor . Voorde. President Korpal presided and called for nominations for Vice - President of the Council. Councilman Kroll'nominated Councilman Hahn for Vice - President. Councilman Carr seconded the nomination. There being no further nominations, Councilman Muszynski moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. Motion carried. Upon roll call vote, Councilman Hahn received 7 votes, 2 Councilmen were absent: Councilman Hahn was declared the duly elected Vice - President for-the year 1958. President Korpal announced that the members of the Standing Committees would remain as they were named the previous year. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Carr made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Council adjourned at 7 :37 P.M.
