HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-01-70 Council Meeting MinutesREGULAR MEETING - RECONVENED Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, reconvened in the Council Chambers in the County -City Building on Tuesday, September 1, 1970 at 3:01 a.m., all members present. The meeting was called to order by Council - President Robert 0. Laven, who presided. REPORTS OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE Council President Laven entertained a motion to waive the reading of the Committee of the Whole Reports. Councilman Allen so moved. Councilman Zielinski seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. ORDINANCES, THIRD READING ORDINANCE NO. 5226 -70 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING MONEYS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF THE SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1971, AND ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1971, INCLUDING ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS AND OBLIGATIONS, AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT, AS AMENDED. The Ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Grounds made a motion for adoption of the amendments. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Grounds made a motion, seconded by Councilman Craven, for passage'.of the ordinance. There being no discussion on the motion, the ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Craven, Grounds+Szymkowiak, Palmer and Zielinski) 1 nay, (Councilman Wise) 0 absent. ORDINANCE NO. 5227 -70 AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TA4ES AND FIXING THE RATE OF TAXATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE TO MEET THE NECESSARY EXPENSE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1971, AS AMENDED. The Ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Craven made a motion for adoption of the amendments. Councilman Reinke seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Craven made a motion, seconded by Councilman Reinke, for passage of the ordinance. There being no discussion on the motion, the ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Craven, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Palmer and Zielinski) 1 nay, (Councilman Wise) 0 absent. There being no further business to come before the Council, Council President Laven entertained a motion for adjournment. Councilman Allen so moved, seconded by Councilman Zielinski. Motion carried.
