HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-09-68 Council Committe of the Whole Meeting MinutesCOMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING DECEMBER 9, 1968 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the Committee of the whole in the Council Chambers of City Hall on Monday, December 9, .968, at 8:00 P.M., seven members present. Council- men Laven, Allen, Craven, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise and Zielinski, Two members absent, Palmer and Reinke. The invocation was given by Councilman Robert 0. Laven. The meeting was called to order by Chairman, william W. Grounds, who presided. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND TONY VASQUEZ, HAMMOND, INDIANA, FOR THE REMOVAL OF A CHIMNEY LOCATED AT NORTH PUMPING STATION, 830 NORTH MICHIGAN STREET, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $5,500.00 This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. Lloyd Taylor, City Engineer, explained the chimney was badly in need of repair, which whould cost in excess of $3,000 and to demolish the 180 foot smoke stack at the North Pumping Station in Leeper Park would cost $5,500.00. Councilman Laven questioned the insurance cover- age, Mr. Taylor explained that there was coverage. Councilman Laven made a motion that the Ordinance go to Council as favorable. Councilman Zielinski seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 40 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 4608 -63 COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS AMENDED. (Location: Commonly known as Crest Manor, Section Nine and Kensington Farms Section IV, Part I & II) This being the time herc:ofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, ;roponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. Kleva spoke for the Ordinance and advised that this was the area formerly annexed to the City of South Bend, Indiana(rezoned sections of Crest Manor and Kensington Farms subdivisions east of Miami Road and north of Kern Road to single - family residential use ) and was given public hearing before his Commission (Area Plan Commission). Miss Guthrie requested clarification of the City Lines at the present time. Mr. Kleva informed where the new boundary was located. Mr. Laven in- quired where the location on Ireland Road was. Councilman Allen made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE FOR AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION FROM THE REDEVELOPMENT BOND FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF TEN THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY -FIVE ($10,875.00) DOLLARS, FOR THE PAYMENT OF INTEREST DUE ON THE REDEVELOPMENT BOND ISSUE OF 1968. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be hear thereon. Miss Guthrie, executive secretary of the South Bend Civic Planning Association asked Mr. Borror for the date of the issuance of the Bond. Mr. Borror stated the date was August first. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favor- able. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion carried There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Allen made a motion to rise and report to the Council.
