HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-08-68 Counci Committee of the Wholel Meeting MinutesCOMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING APRIL 8 1968 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in the Council Chambers of City Hall on Monday April 8, 1968 at 8 :00 P.M., seven members present, (Councilmen Allen, Craven, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Palmer, Zielinski), two absent, (Councilman Laven and Councilman Palmer). The Invocation was given by Reverend Edward W. Brueseke, Zion United Church of Christ. The meeting was called to order by Chairman William W. Grounds, who presided. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 36 -9, RATES OF FARE OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1962, SAID ARTICLE BEING COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE TAXICAB ORDINANCE. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in representing Courtesy Cab Company, and Mr. Bert Liss, made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as Motion carried. ORDINANCE on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were favor of the Ordinance was Attorney'F. Jay Nimtz, operator of Indiana Cab Company. Councilman Szymkowiak favorable. Councilman Allen seconded the motion. AN ORDINANCE FOR AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION TO ACCOUNT Q -312, "FUEL OIL" IN THE AMOUNT OF $700.00 AND THE TRANSFER OF SAID SUM FROM ACCOUNT Q -11, "SERVICES PERSONAL" IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, ALL BEING WITHIN THE GENERAL FUND. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon, Fire Chief Cecil C. McHenry answered questions directed to him by Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the Civic Planning Associ_atiou, explaining the fuel budget was set low because it was anticipated that two fire stations would have been closed under a major re- organization program begun last year. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Allen made a motion to rise and report to the Council. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion carried.
