HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-24-2025 CCAC Meeting Minutes 1 Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) © © © ______________________________________________________________________ The March 24, 2026, Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) meeting was called to order by Chair Rachel Tomas Morgan at 3:30 p.m. in-person and virtually via Microsoft Teams. Please note the attached link for the meeting recording: https://docs.southbendin.gov/WebLink/browse.aspx?dbid=0&mediaid=410874 Persons in attendance included the following individuals representing the following entities: Rachel Tomas Morgan South Bend Common Council Bob Palmer South Bend Common Council Veronica Pitt-Payne City Clerk’s Office Daniela Rivera Molina Saint Mary’s College Rob DeCleene Indiana University South Bend Gwen O’Brien University of Notre Dame Victoria Piskol Holy Cross College Jarveair Bourn South Bend Police Department Pam Claeys Neighborhood Representative 2026 Organizational Meeting: Election of Officers for 2026 Chair Tomas Morgan asked Attorney Bob Palmer if there were enough members in attendance to proceed with the election of officers. Attorney Palmer said they have quorum. Chair Tomas Morgan opened nominations for the role of Chairperson. Pam Claeys, River Park West Neighborhood Committee Chair, nominated Rachel Tomas Morgan. The nomination was seconded by Gwen O’Brien, Director of Community Relations at the University of Notre Dame. Seeing no other nominations, Attorney Palmer announced that Rachel Tomas Morgan has been elected as Chairperson. © 2 Chair Tomas Morgan opened nominations for the role of Recorder. She stated that this role has traditionally been held by the Office of the City Clerk. Chair Tomas Morgan nominated the Office of the City Clerk. The nomination was seconded by Pam Claeys. Seeing no other nominations, Attorney Palmer announced that the Office of the City Clerk has been elected as Recorder. Updates from Member Organization Representatives & Suggestions for Discussion Topics Saint Mary’s College Update Daniela Rivera Molina, Student Government Director of Internal Affairs, gave an update on behalf of Saint Mary’s College. She spoke about upcoming events including Love Your Body Week, the Raise Your Voice Symposium on Sexual Violence, Take Back the Night, and a lip-sync fundraiser with For the Good on April 28, 2026. Chair Tomas Morgan asked if these events are open to the public. Daniela Rivera Molina said these events are primarily for the Saint Mary’s Community. She said the fundraiser will be open to the public. Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) Update Rob DeCleene, Vice Chancellor for University Relations and Advancement, gave an update on behalf of IUSB. He said State of the City will be hosted on IUSB’s campus for the second (2nd) year in a row, at Joshi Performance Hall at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He announced IUSB’s annual Asian Heritage Festival will take place the following night on Friday, March 27, 2026. He shared information about the IU Trophy Tour that will be coming to campus on Thursday, April 2, 2026. He announced that IUSB’s International Food Festival will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He noted that all these events are open to the public. University of Notre Dame Update Gwen O’Brien gave an update on behalf of the University of Notre Dame. She announced that Back the Bend will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2026. She announced that Student Government’s Taste of South Bend event is taking place on Tuesday, April 3, 2026. She spoke about anticipated traffic for the Luke Combs concert at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, April 8, 2026. She announced that the Robinson Community Learning Center’s twenty-fifth (25th) anniversary celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2026. She said Commencement will take the weekend of May 17, 2026. Holy Cross College Update Victoria Piskol, Student Body President, gave an update on behalf of Holy Cross College. She said the annual Spring Jubilee will be held on April 25, 2026, and will be open to the public. She said Holy Cross College will also be sending a group to Back the Bend. South Bend Police Department (SBPD) Update 3 Sergeant Jarveair Bourne, SBPD, gave an update on behalf of the Department. He said SBPD is holding Prospect Day on Saturday, March 28, 2026. He gave a reminder that monthly crime stats meetings are held on the second (2nd) Wednesday of every month, and the next meeting will be on April 8, 2026. He spoke about the most recent Cops and Community event that took place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center and announced that the next event will be on April 21, 2026 at City Church. Chair Tomas Morgan asked if there are any current public safety concerns. Sergeant Bourne said there are no specific concerns right now and gave some general public safety tips and reminders. Chair Tomas Morgan asked about expected attendance for Prospect Day. Sergeant Bourne said the expected attendance of one hundred (100) applicants is about average. Neighborhood Representative Update Pam Claeys spoke about some groundskeeping concerns in the River Park West neighborhood near IUSB. She shared there will be a River Park Neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, May 2, 2026. South Bend Common Council Update Chair Tomas Morgan announced that Joe Molnar has been appointed as the City’s new Deputy Director of Community Investment, and Madi Rogers will be replacing Denise Reidl as the City’s Chief Innovation Officer. She spoke about the Innovation and Technology Department’s recently- awarded Bloomberg grant. She gave an update on recently passed legislation, including the Downtown South Bend 2045 Plan and the St. Joseph County Land Bank. 2026 Meeting Schedule Chair Tomas Morgan said the last meeting of the school year will take place on April 28, 2026. She encouraged the school representatives to invite any newly elected student government officials to attend. She said meetings will resume in the fall on the fourth (4th) Tuesday of every month, and she asked members to share feedback on proposed meeting dates and times.
