HomeMy WebLinkAbout9398-03 Establishing a Historical Landmark - 1021 Portage AvenueORDINANCE No. Passed by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana February 24, Attest: Attest: 20 03 Ciry Clerk President of Common Council Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of Sotrtlr Bend, Indiana February 25, 03 20 City Clerk Approved and signed by me February 25, 200 Mayor ORDINANCE NO. ~`i b `C~ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE, AND DESIGNATING THE STRUCTURES AND REAL PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1021 PORTAGE AVENUE, IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, A LOCAL HISTORIC LANDMARK STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County has petitioned for the designation of the following described structures and real property as an Historic Landmark, pursuant to Ordinance No. 5565-73, as amended, to wit: The Axtell House, built in 1905, with land and carriage house, being Lot 5 and 32 feet of the Northwest side of Lot 4, North part of bank out lot Bulla & Pattons Addition, City of South Bend, Indiana The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County, after due study, and in agreement with its present owners, has recommended the designation of the property as an Historic Landmark. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: Section 1. The Axtell house, with its yard and its carriage house, is hereby, designated and established as an Historic Landmark under Ordinance No. 5565-73, as amended. Section 2. The purpose is to designate the The Old Axtell House at 1021 Portage Avenue, South Bend, a Local Historic Landmark. The Historic Preservation Commission voted last year to recommend historic designa- tion. The owners of the property, Don and Mrs. Eldrich, and Jason and Sarah Eldrich, also rec- ommend historic designation, and would like to speak in support of the proposed ordinance when it comes up for hearing.
