A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL RECOGNIZING THE
POSITIVE RESULTS OF A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND DEPARTMENT OF
VENUES PARKS & ARTS AND LOGAN CENTER
7�er%M earlier this spring Marla Godette, Transition Specialist with Logan Center's Pre -Employment
Training Services Program (PREETS), contacted Jordan Gathers, Executive Director of City of South Bend's
Venues Parks & Arts Department to discuss an internship opportunity offering employment for young adults
with intellectual disabilities and or other special needs; and
4XPnat, after learning the details of the program offered to local young adults ages eighteen to twenty-
four (18-24) in local school systems, Mr. Gathers convened his team to find a spot to add this level of diversity
to their department; and
OA, Ms. Godette and her manager of the PREETS DEPT., Elizabeth Hambruch, were invited to a
meeting with John Martinez, Facilities Director of Venues Parks & Arts, to launch this innovative partnership;
and
Olitenxiti, three (3) very capable and qualified candidates, Ethan Rogers, Joseph Zurbuch, and Tyler
Ingrain were selected to intern through the PREETS program; and
OXimmvd, the LCC (Logan Center Crew) was thus formed, and the Crew took over the general care of
the Southeast Park and areas inside and out surrounding the VPA facilities building; and
OAComiks, these young adults have learned safety, security and have been trained by the City's
Unsheltered Community Coordinator, Carl Hetler, on safe interactions with our unsheltered residents,
environmental safety, inventory control and so much more; and
4J, the LCC is proof that when given a chance and properly trained, all people are able to succeed
in environments that embrace all aspects of diversity.

Section I. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend and the South Bend Common Council we
acknowledge and applaud the positive results achieved through the partnership between Logan Center and the
South Bend Department of Venues Parks & Arts.
Section II. It is our sincere hope that this partnership is a lasting example of creating a diverse
workforce because it is within us to do so and not because we identified a department to require it.
Section III. Thank you to Logan Center, the City of South Bend, Department of Venues Parks & Arts,
and the parents who never stop supporting their young adults.
