HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3666 Commending Caleb Bauer - Signed�Oufl) 39pub Rebebelopment comint"594on RESOLUTION NO.3666 A RESOLUTION HONORING CALEB BAUER FOR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, THE SOUTH BEND COMMUNITY, AND THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION WHEREAS, Caleb Bauer is a committed community leader who has served the South Bend community for the past four years as the Executive Director of Community Investment for the City of South Bend' and,two years as the Director of Communications, and who has worked closely with the Redevelopment Commission; and WHEREAS, during service to our community, Caleb worked tirelessly to establish a level of professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to customer service in the City's community investment activities; and WHEREAS, through creativity, tenacity, and perseverance, Caleb has led the Department of Community Investment and positioned the department to effectively meet the City's challenges; and WHEREAS, under Caleb's leadership, the Department of Community Investment team obtained an unprecedented volume of opportunities to support job creation and investment in the community, with over 2,500 new jobs announced and $364 million in private investment during his tenure; and WHEREAS, Caleb has led the department in the development and implementation of many critical projects with substantial community impact such as: Madison Lifestyle District and Beacon Tower project, Colfax Corner project, Riverfront West housing and infrastructure project, New Day Intake Center, South Bend Thrive development, Ward Bakery rehabilitation, Stadium Flats and Diamond View housing project, The Monreaux housing project, Liberty Tower renovation project, Momentum Entrepreneurship Hub and SoMa apartments, South Bend International Airport project, Intend Indiana Near Northwest housing project, Advantix Westside housing project, 466 Works Southeast Neighborhood housing project, Allen Edwin Leland and Marion housing project; and WHEREAS, Caleb's leadership, foresight, and ingenuity has led to the successful repurposing of several key downtown South Bend assets such as the former Salvation Army building, the Leighton Building, the Spenner Garage, and Center City Place, and has facilitated redevelopment throughout the City in areas such as downtown South Bend, former Drewrys Brewery, Michigan Street, Western Avenue, Lincoln Park, Kennedy Park, the Near Northwest Neighborhood, the Southeast Neighborhood, the Northeast Neighborhood; and WHEREAS, Caleb was pivotal in spearheading the process leading to the establishment of the South Bend Downtown Innovation Development District, the establishment of the Lincoln and Kennedy Park Residential Housing Allocation Area, and the expansion of the Riverfront Development Project Area; and WHEREAS, Caleb has passionately and successfully executed initiatives established by Mayor James Mueller to increase the availability of housing to City residents and expand programming and supportive services for individuals in need; and WHEREAS, throughout Caleb's tenure as the Executive Director of the Department of Community Investment, the City has partnered to add nearly 500 income -qualified and 700 market -rate new housing units to the City; and WHEREAS, under Caleb's leadership, the Redevelopment Commission advanced the planning and funding of significant park improvements throughout the City, including enhancements at Leeper Park, Potawatomi Park, and Kennedy Park, as well as major investments in key civic venues such as the Four Winds Field expansion, the Raclin Murphy Encore Center, and the new Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center; and WHEREAS, as Executive Director of the Department of Community Investment, Caleb guided major trail expansions and streetscape upgrades, including the Link Trail, the Coal Line Trail Phase II, Mishawaka Avenue, and Linden Avenue; and WHEREAS, Caleb oversaw the creation of multiple neighborhood plans, such as those for the Monroe Edgewater and LaSalle Park neighborhoods, as well as the development of the Downtown 2045 Plan, engaging residents directly to establish clear, community -driven blueprints for neighborhood development. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the South Bend Redevelopment Commission hereby honors Caleb Bauer for his extraordinary commitment and distinguished service to the City of South Bend; thanks him for the outstanding contributions he has made; and declares it will sincerely miss 'his diligent work in the community.
