The attached bill seeks the appropriation of $288,000 of CD
funds for the acquisition of the Odd Fellows Building. If
approved, the Board of Public Works will acquire the building
and subsequently transfer its interest in the property to the
Department of Redevelopment. Redevelopment will then demolish
the building in order to accomodate downtown renewal plans
involving the two block area bounded by Main, Jefferson,
St. Joseph and Washington Streets.
By approving this appropriation, the Common Council also
formally amends the 1978 Community Development Plan by dropping
proposed CDB site improvements and substituting the aforementioned
real estate acquisition.
We respectfully request your favorable consideration of
this matter.
